Getting involved in a conflict started by the US, think I remember that from somewhere…

Choice of language is interesting ‘nefarious history’ and the emotive ‘misery’ aspect. Think we are seeing which way our government is siding for the time being. Doesn’t bode particularly well for Greenland.

As a citizen of the UK can I register my displeasure of having anything to do with the US and there crazy desire for oil.

I for one fully support our helping to annoy Russia.

TBH, stopping this ship is one of the more legitimate things the Americans have done of late, even if provocative in the face of Russia claiming to defend it.

Letting a ship run through the GIUK Gap wouldn’t be great in the current climate either.

If there is a legitimate claim to stopping this ship – which looks likely – then its probably good we got involved.

We can no longer appeal to their better nature, because tbey dont have any. Neither can we resist. What we can do though is show ourselves to be worthy allies, and capable we are too. For example, most of NATOs arctic warfare capabity is non US. They may need tjat one day.

    This is a good call.

1 – Russia only understands strength. As soon as they scrambled their submarine to protect it, that guaranteed the US had to board it. And if the UK refused to help, Putin would see that as a sign of weakness. The fact we got involved is standing up to him.

2 – I think we have to keep Trump onside because I honestly think he is fucking nuts. He is completely irrational, thin-skinned and overreacts to any slights eithe real or imagined. None of his actions in past months have been the actions of a sane man–insulting his allies, obsessing over not getting the Nobel Prize, his delusions about stopping eight wars, threatening military action over Greenland, the insane tarriffs…. Some White House insiders said he decided to attack Maduro only after Maduro mocked him with a dance. That is not the action of a sane man. I think he is fucking nuts, so its best to keep the nutter sweet with flattery and supporting him against Russian tankers like this.

I must say, I am very much enjoying Russia crying about this being outside maritime law after they literally allowed the vessel to change flag and re register mid voyage, which is most definitely against maritime law.
