A rare issue with what is otherwise one of the best government departments.

This is a good example of how incompetent Irelands government is all around. Its sickening. On the other hand, weather is very nice todayÂ

Ah I’ll give them a pass, as the passport office is one of the few things in Ireland that operates to a very impressive standard.
Can we put the passport office on the ballot for the next election please?

>An issue emerged in recent days with passports issued between December 23rd, 2025, and January 6th, 2026.
Definitely someone was on their Christmas holidays and came back and spotted it.
Imagine the feeling…. grim.

I’m gonna play devil’s advocate on the passport office. Most people who think they’re great are doing a routine renewal, and receive it within days.
Anything left or right of that and you’re into the same pitfalls as any other government department in Ireland.
– Impossible to speak to someone on the phone
– Utterly useless when you do get through
– Weeks and months worth of red tape
– Incorrect information often provided
– Delivery timeframes ignored for anything other than routine
There’s plenty of Facebook groups (especially of people living in the UK) of having month long issues with them, not to mention that first time adult applications from abroad take over a year in certain cases. Of course, with a passport office, due diligence is to be expected but that is not an acceptable time frame for anything.
