Well I mean obviously not, we’re part of NATO and duty bound in its defence.

  2. Cynical_Classicist on

No, they’ll just be working closely with them when they do.

  3. BobMonkhaus on

They decided if the blatant illegal Venezuela attack was legal yet?

  4. sorfetsca on

I still can’t believe that invading a NATO country is something being seriously discussed

  5. Due_Ad_3200 on

The government should say it will help defend NATO ally Denmark if its territory is attacked.

  6. We won’t help you but we won’t stop you. I what I expect most of NATO will say with exception to Denmark who have said they will defend it knowing they won’t succeed.

  7. Spamgrenade on

The world is going insane. Maybe I’m just dreaming all this shit. In which case, sorry guys.

  8. Says_Who22 on

I should hope not! I would hope we’d go a hell of a lot further than just not helping!

  9. wordshavenomeanings on

Sell the USA treasuries we hold, end the agreements for materiale servicing. Close the bases, and nationalise his stupid golf course.

  10. Sabotage-Darkness93 on

It’s absolutely insane that this even needs to be said.

  11. Trump says he needs to protect it against Russia/China.

Can someone explain to him that it’s already protected by NATO?

Ohh wait. As said by one of his close friends “Trump is functionally illiterate” (Jeffrey Epstein)

  12. Automatic_Bat_4824 on

Okay, does this mean they will not abet an invasion and neither will they aid the invaded?

  13. noirproxy1 on

Britain should be holding them back. I am tired of us being so passive like with Ukraine.

  14. That_Dust3366 on

I mean they have a duty to defend an invasion of Greenland, right?

  15. DryArugula6108 on

…Did anyone think we were going to help? Like, was that ever the question?

  16. Front_Eagle739 on

We are also moving to put trip wire forces into greenland for the sole purpose of making it difficult for america to go in shooting and not killing uk troops to force us to respond. UK would be on denmarks side in this.

  17. OiseauxDeath on

I know they are making an effort to help the US when it comes to logistics in a “hey we are useful dont fuck this up” and “we will help but we have red lines dont cross them or we withdraw support” (helping with oil tanker a few days ago and withdrawing intelligence in the caribbean a month back) but these red lines need to be better communicated with the public. US weight on our economy is immense and I get selling your soul so the whole country isnt put into a recession but there comes a time of acknowledging the sunk cost

  18. This whole invade thing is crazy, especially considering the USA already have a base there! FML.

  19. Due-Resort-2699 on

Imagine going back 5 years and telling someone that’s an actual headline

If this does happen then the European Union should look to work more closely with Russia, China and India moving forward and it may be a good thing if we can start using a different currency for trading

200 million Americans think they are the world, it would be good to see the 1 billion people in Europe and 2 billion in Asia start working more closely together.

  21. VamosFicar on

In other news … UK unable to support either side as entire force bound for Ukraine.

  22. jbkb1972 on

Good, I’d rather stand with Denmark, the US are not our allies anymore as far as I’m concerned.

  23. Skeet_fighter on

Every NATO country should be saying it will come to Greenland/Denmark’s defence if the US invades.

Trump is a fucking psychopath. Any and all reasonable world leaders need to be putting “contingency” plans in place to deal with him right now.

  24. jbkb1972 on

Hostile adversaries he says, yes you’re the hostile ones.

  25. Apprehensive-Golf-95 on

The devil is in the detail here, there is a difference between will not help and actively defend against. This feels like a sugar coated policy decision.

I’m also starting to wonder how much the anti American hate is led by hostile foreign actors trying to destabilize America. Whose playbook are we on at the minute. There is a lot of value in leaving the unknowns on the table, it adds risk to any decision trump makes. it won’t help because he is a narcissistic nepo baby who has had exactly what he wants all his life. The reactions of such a person can be modelled pretty accurately so rather than an overt Putin told Trump to do it, they are just manipulating him into doing it by goading the rest of the world into saying no.

I feel maybe we should back out of the conversation, individual countries responses undermines the collective bargaining power of NATO. Let’s leave it as a try it and find out.

  26. blood__drunk on

Who would have thought 10yrs ago that if you said a country will invade another country, kidnapped its President and threatened to invade a nato member that it would be the US?

  27. Gloomy-Being7064 on

Wow look at us flex. Giving it the ‘we won’t actively help destroy NATO’ big one. If we don’t actively oppose this it’s the end of the UK as any kind of actor on the world stage.

  28. LegoNinja11 on

    How naive to believe that.

Its only a matter of time before Trump will be standing there claiming the US navy were unable to sail between points A and B because Greenland got in the way of their lawful navigation causing them to have to sail ARROUND the island

What’s more the island definitely moved in the direction of the navy attempting to run them over causing the navy to shoot sideways at Greenland in self defense.

  29. AdAffectionate2418 on

If you tolerate this then your children will be next…

  30. LANdShark31 on

    Did that need clarifying?
I’d have thought it was obvious.

  31. Saftylad on

There’s a world of difference, in both the real world and diplomatically, between ‘will not help’ and ‘will refuse assistance’.

Is there anything the UK govt could do to stop the USA flying into their leased bases as a stopover/staging point on the way to attack Greenland?

  32. KinkySouthAsian on

Britain needs to grow some balls and send over some large warships. The Monarchy is also now threatened by this disgusting orange can’t.

  33. Is that a polite way of saying we won’t come in their way to defend Greenland if they decide to press the invasion command?

  34. Electricbell20 on

Journalists really are scraping the barrel these days.

  35. AIGirlTS on

Well, maybe not under Labour and co, but I have serious doubts about Reform & the Conservatives as they are both pro Russia and pro USA / Trump, both want out of the ECHR, so I wouldn’t put it past them to take the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone by helping Trump if they had the opportunity to do so.

  36. technurse on

The fact that it’s taken until now, after a Labour MP completely failed to say “invading Greenland bad” is wild. This shouldn’t be a matter up for debate.

  37. Educational-Book-350 on

It’s astounding, absolutely astounding, that such a headline even exists. Its incredible the sequence that has occurred. Every week, consistently, for many years now, when you think ones eyebrows could not be possibly raised higher, they are!!
Starts with some eyebrow raising stupidity about some American president being born in Kenya, and now here we are with Britain will not help USA invade Greenland!!!!!
Fuck me drunk it’s a circus.

  38. theaveragemillenial on

I don’t think people are fully comprehending where this goes if the US invades Greenland.

  39. culture_vulture_1961 on

If US troops landing in Nuuk were greeted by British, French and Nordic troops there would be an interesting stand off. Would Trump order an air strike or even threaten one?

Hopefully we won’t get to find out but the idea that European countries will just roll over and give Trump what he wants is ridiculous. All the important European powers have a thousand reasons not to do that under any circumstances.

  40. TheBlueEyedLawyer on

    lol won’t help?

How about trying to actively prevent an invasion?
