  1. Why do these wannabe anarchists protest in London as if it means a damn thing?

Stick to venting outrage on X or if you really want a day out then take a flight to the country of concern and protest because that is where the people you want the attention of will definitely be hearing to you.

shame the US is such a basket case right now otherwise I’d be quite optimistic about the future with all these nasty regimes falling

As much as I dislike the regime in Iran I am extremely cautious. Some of the events seen in the past few days have been quite horrific and it’s not just the government at fault – there are plenty of arsonists in Iran setting fire to buildings some of which have no connection to the government, trashing streets, kicking people of buses and then blowing them up and now Kurdish terrorists staged an attack along side Baloch separatists. Many normal Iranians are actually so disgusted at the protests they’re rallying for the government to suppress them, and now it’s become a pillar for their support, because they’re being reminded of the 1970s to 80s terrorist attacks by MEK that were ended in a brutal crackdown by the Islamic republic restoring stability.

I would much rather the regime slowly lose power from within than what we are seeing now. I want a nuclear deal that benefits the UK and that also prevents a crisis in Iran, while the regime likely slowly reforms like China did from Mao to Xioping or have a relatively bloodless takeover like Romania. I can’t see the Iranian regime not eventually losing power – right now it absolutely has the support from a large enough minority, but in 10-20 years I can see that religious faction starting to really die off and groups like Basij filling with secular Iranians.

I don’t really trust the diaspora, I feel they are pretty out of touch with Iranian people, large sums haven’t even been to Iran since the Shah fell, and the later they left the more pragmatic and less ideological they tend to be in my opinion.
