The cost of manufacturing consent is increasing in line with inflation.

    >The spending saw thousands of euro given to dozens of communications companies for services including the distribution of press releases, media training for civil servants, and public awareness campaigns.

    >The information was compiled by Sinn Féin TD for Cork North Central, Thomas Gould, following inquiries to all government departments.

He probably wasted more money on valuable time being spent collating the data for answering his questions.

I can think of loads of government initiatives that would be worthwhile spending €2m to inform the public about.

Though of course Gould needs something to whip up a bit of outrage among some of  the dafter elements of his base.

€2.2m over 5 years for communication across all government departments does not seem excessive at all

Just a reminder that SF TD Aengus O’Snodaigh wasted over €50,000 on 434 ink cartridges between 2007 and 2008.
