wait factory? isnt this gonna be expensive af? to get the materials to and from space? i’d understand it if we had space elevators. right now seems to be jumping the gun though. i guess this is mainly just full on science than an actual thing.
Quite a misleading title, the gap between this and an actual commercial semiconductor factory in space is still massive.
This is a demonstrator, and only a demonstrating the ability to get up to temperature, the next phases will be creating extremely basic semi conductors in space and attempt to return them.
This is still decades out at best if it will be ever proven commercially viable or technically feasible, it’s impressive but calling it a factory is just plain clickbait.
