Well at least we have affordable housing and rents. \s
Great we can ensure the younger generation don’t drink too much as they live in their parents homes till they are 40 or emigrate.

Slightly off topic, but..
Few years ago we’d leave pub and skip into a local chipper/restaurant at 11.30/12, get our food or whatever and sit eating and chatting for another while.
Recently was out and about, called in for food, was told restaurant closes at nine, insurance reasons. Without a security guard present they weren’t insured.
A small minority of gurriers, poorly resourced gardai and a compo culture have ruined the craic In this country.

At least you’ll be well aware of the health dangers of your pint before you step outside the bar and get your head caved in by a heroin addict while everyone films it for TikTok.

Our government should come with a health warning

Just listening to that and the one thing that’s hitting me is how *very* American it sounds, both the accents and the puritanical vibe about drinks coming across from some of the comments.
We don’t seem to ever get to the chilled out more European approach to alcohol – it’s always either we’re out on the lash or taking the pledge and moralising. It indicates a very poor relationship with alcohol to me.

Christ, the way people are banging on about this you’d swear they were banning drink outright.
It’s a fucking line or two of text on the can/bottle saying alcohol causes cancer. If that’s enough to put you off drinking you’ve got bigger issues to be dealing with.
I love a drink, don’t get me wrong. But I really don’t see the outrage over making people more aware of its risks.

Oh they handled the housing crisis did they? over 16,900 people in emergency accommodation as of late 2025.
So they can go on to important things like reminding people alcohol can be bad for you? This government is a disaster, they would rather be a mean and miserly nanny state of sheer incompetence than actually help people. Our new colonisers are corporations. Despicable.

Good. If they do it for cigarettes and the likes then they should absolutely do it for alcohol. It destroys so many people’s lives.

I agree in principle – _however_ it should have been brought in following a common EU standard warning label.
This will only further drive up costs and reduce variety for consumers, as imported products will require a localised label if they don’t already have one. That cost and time will fall on the importer (either a wholesaler or individual off licenses/shops).
