    > Speaking at the first Parliamentary Labour Party meeting of the year on Monday, the Prime Minister leader said that the cost-of-living crisis cannot be “solved by isolationism.”

    > “And in a world this volatile – you have to be on the pitch. You have to be in the room to tackle the issues working people care about.

    > “The cost-of-living crisis will not be solved by isolationism. You cannot deliver peace in Ukraine without being in the room.

    > “And you do not secure trade terms for companies like JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) by putting gesture politics first.”

    And he is right.

Reasonable. I cannot think of a single economy that improved in the long term due to isolationalist policy.

Internationalism isnt going to solve the cost of living crisis either. Rent controls, punitive industry regulators, price fixing of utilities and public transport would have more of an impact.

This is all well and good and also true. But if we’re isolating ourselves from funding to not be isolated in the bigger picture then the standard of living hits rock bottom and we’ll eventually get a Trump wannabe (Farage) who will get into power as they say they’ll tackle the issues in the country. At the end of the day, people are selfish and want what’s best for them. It’s basic human psychology

He should’ve stayed a lawyer cause he’s great with statements but my incontinent dog could be a better politician (never mind prime minister) than him

The psychology of deprivation is immediate day to day survival. Deprivation creates a myopic view of the world. Sadly, Labour doesn’t seem to understand this. Until people can have the economic breathing room, as opposed to living from insecure pay-check to insecure pay-check, they will continue to be focused on their immediate survival needs at the exclusion of all other aspects of life.

The reason we’re in a ‘cost of living crisis’ is that corporations are skimming money from gov contracts, avoiding tax and encouraging obtusely distant trade deals in place of with our neighbours. It should be framed more as a cost of corporate profit crisis.

  8. Isolationism and self reliance are 2 different things. Open trade is good. Free markets are good. Being dependent on external forces that will never have your best interest at heart isn’t good and will kill us all.

Neither will giving us all the downsides of China, but none of the upsides.
