I can barely afford enough food to gain weight. I will pirate any movie show or book I feel like until Ireland actually becomes affordable and we don’t have to constantly stress about money.

If paying for a game, movie, music isn’t owning it then downloading it isn’t piracy.

Piracy came about because too many shows were exclusive to different channels and you had to pay for each single movie, song basically general media that came out etc then Netflix, Spotify , steam etc came along which basically meant a reasonable amount of cash for a full library of content and piracy died down then suddenly loads of alternatives came out with exclusives to them etc and piracy came back .. The problem is greed of the producers of media they can make millions with consolidated platforms but prefer billions. No sympathy for them

How else am I going to find obscure old TV shows I tell my kids about when they go “that’s not a real show!” and it’s not streaming anywhere.

Oh, my God, that’s disgusting! Streaming free online? Where? Where did you find these sites!?
Some media exists today solely due to piracy. The world needs more unauthorized reproduction, lest culture be destroyed once it ceases to be profitable.

I honestly stopped piracy in the Netflix glory days when everything was available there. Now I’d need about 6 movie and 3 or 4 sports subscriptions to watch what I want to.

Nonsense. Irish people would never. It’s clearly dastardly foreigners using VPNs to pretend they’re in the Land of Saints and Scholars…
Also, love the €1.8bn “loss”… it’s an opportunity cost. Nothing to suggest people would pay €40 a month for a sky sports sub if they don’t have their DB. It’s money that would just go to further bloat the obnoxious earnings of preening footballers..

The industry needs to wake up. Music piracy is almost a thing of the past because the industry copped on and embraced convenient and affordable streaming services for users. The movie industry needs to do the same.
Piracy is like prostitution. It will always exist and there will always be ways to access it.
I dont follow sports so I cant really comment on that though.

Netflix had piracy nearly eradicated but then they got greedy amd other companies wanted in on that streaming golden goose that is streaming and now here we are where its easier to find what you want through piracy.

If I was a millionaire I’d still be using torrents because the streaming industry is so hilarously fragmented and restrictive. There’s original content in Canada I can’t access no matter the money, and American shows like The Pitt that take a whole year before it reaches Europe.

I went from torrenting a fair bit of stuff. To Netflix back when it was 7 quid a month and you got everything (DNS to give you US Netflix content). I’m not sure how much Netflix is now but I bowed out after about the second price increase in combination with loss of a lot of content.
I just went back to pirating harder than ever, dedicated media server, remote access, you name it. They 100% pushed me into it.
You enshitify services, and people push back.

Also, make sure not to pay your TV licence.
If you rent and accidentally answer the door to an inspector, give a fake name. When a letter arrives addressed to that name, ignore it — it’s illegal to open mail that isn’t addressed to you. For a letter to have any weight, it has to be addressed to a specific individual.
If the inspector comes back later in the year (usually when it’s not raining), say that the person named on the letter has moved out and you don’t know them. Give a different fake name and repeat the process.

The entertainment industry had a solid chance at really reducing video piracy around 15 years ago, when all the content was coming online and easy to stream. But then everyone started their own streaming service with their own subscription prices, which didn’t go downz and got exclusive to different services. No one wants to pay for 5 different streaming subscriptions, and you can’t even just pay for the content you want, you need to subscribe for a month.
It’s no wonder there’s a resurgence in piracy. I just hope this doesn’t happen with music, where you can still get all the popular music in any of the services.

I pirate all the time but in the old ways.
Gung ho dodgy boxers should at least make themselves aware of this shit going on:
I pay €80 a year for a dodgy box and it has every channel under the sun. If the big providers all put their fat thick heads together and even charged €150-€200 a year for EVERYTHING together as a bundle, I’d probably seriously consider just going legitimate… but they’re never going to do that cause they’re too greedy so 🤷♀️

It is mad how much of a tossup it is finding anything remotely niche via paid streaming services that can actually be watched in Ireland.
