The UK needs to put an end to this nimbyism, we are slowly falling further behind other countries. I’m not saying we should rush things or cut corners but we need to stop giving due process to every single challenge to a project. The amount of money that we spent on the bat boxes is insane

Yes damn home owner rights, wildlife existence, forget safety and use the cheapest materials so it falls apart in a few years….
We just need to stop privatising everything, our government, thus us, get ripped off by the private sector…

Its behind a paywall, so can’t read it but I am going to blame the town and country planning act 1947, and fuck the town and country planning act 1947

The UK needs to accept that it is just too poor to be able to afford NIMBYism. We do not have the luxury of being able to waste growth potential by not building vital infrastructure with proven productivity benefits because it’s nkt like growth from other forms is plentiful.

This monster may never ever be finished.

Can’t get past the paywall, but if you look at the amount of middle managers for such a project it will be absolutely ridiculous.
I have an acquaintance on this project who just basically outright said there’s a level of corruption going on, but it can be easily covered through the high budget the project has got. The private businesses seemed to be making a killing on this.
The time to do things on infrastructure also is way too long. There’s too much stopping, waiting then starting.
The article isn’t anything new, it’s just some rather vague pointing at Japan despite them being one of the most expensive countries for high-speed rail construction.

Wasn’t the tory government intentionally selling off land bought north of Birmigham that was specifically going to be used to develop the railway infrastructure up north?

It’s nothing new. Look how much the original railway founders had to spend to satisfy numpties in fancy houses.
Because the every party have zero idea of construction and how they get fleeced.
The rail companies take the michel constantly, sub companies milk it for as much as they can.
The teams issued to do the work milk it constantly.
Hence the coat.
Should have invested in a pasture with cows it would be cheaper and we could get more milk from it.
Just a national farce.
All by design. Rail in this country has utterly failed the British public, and lined the pockets of so many utter cunts
