i mean its not failure for the department for fixing pay , any other day you have people on here complaining if a civil servant got higher pay then they should ( see RTE) , the defense forces is no different

the government by law cant ignore civil servant pay agreements

I think it’s hilarious how they said they wanted to massively expand the Reserve Defence Forces, and people actually joined, but then it cost them more money than they expected and now they’ve decided that reservists won’t be payed for most activities anymore

Military cost big money. The only way that from a budget point of view to justify it is through a defence industry. Others yiou are pouring money out entirely. So this or no Military. There’s no half way house ad they are finding out.

Who really wants to fight and possibly die for these twats?

  7. With everything going on in the world it is obvious we need to drastically increase the strength of the defence forces. It just shows the fecklessness and lack of urgency in both Government and the civil service that this is all so ponderous.

70-80% of kids sitting the leaving cert continuing education after 2nd level might have something to do with it.

People don’t want to be shot at.

The lifestyle doesn’t suit them and it’s the kind of job that will always strain family life.

Is there anything in Ireland that’s not absolutely shite and failing? Health, defence, transport, housing, justice, policing, all shite and run as if we’re strapped for cash.

We need to be colonized again , we are clearly incapable of running things ourselves. This time though, i’d like it to be the Dutch or the Swiss, they might be a bit nicer to us.

Regardless of the pay, the school curriculum has been very honest about the experience of what war is exactly like.

And now they want us a part of it?

After reading Dulce et Decorum est by Wilfred Owen or Boots by Rudyard Kipling?

They might want to consider making it an attractive career. As it stands it just isn’t and they’re neither retaining nor recruiting people. You can’t just carry on regardless. Something has to change.
