How the heck did Krakow manage to beat Dhaka and Lahore?

Weak ruzzian lungs simply clog up will all the slack that’s in the air when entering Poland. Another glorious victory over eastern barbarians.

Is the data accurate? I can’t fathom Krakow being more polluted than Delhi (which is unfit for life at this point)..

What are the planned changes in the energy mix of Poland? Are there any nuclear reactors planned? I believe renewables would be on the rise as in most of the countries, but what about nuclear in Poland? Any Polish Redditors with some insights? Feel free to point me to some links and sources. I don’t mind them being in Polish, I understand the language a bit.

We have 1.3 million people but still the same road, “aleja,” that existed when my grandfather was alive in 1914. On top of that, we’ve overbuilt on the communist-designed airways with buildings, ignoring the fact that the design was meant to allow airflow. Then there are the German-imported diesel cars in a traffic-clogged city, where the first thing some local does is cut out the DPF so he can drive his diesel to Biedronka and back, without realizing that diesel isn’t meant for winter or short trips.

Is this based off the pollution monitoring space systems?
Because if this is going off treaty reporting, China and India do not provide accurate data, but the satellite systems do.

Iqair is a private company that makes money selling air purifiers, their data gets often shared online but should be taken with more than a grain of salt. Is air quality in krakow very bad at the moment? Yes. Is it literally the worst in the world? I doubt it
pete_moss on
I feel like people are overlooking that this updates hourly. Krakow’s down to fifth now [https://www.iqair.com/world-air-quality-ranking](https://www.iqair.com/world-air-quality-ranking) . Not great obviously but you need a longer slice of time to get an idea of comparisons.
Moved to Krakow ten years ago in the winter and was horrified how bad the air quality was there. Year after year I kept hearing how much they’re improving in this matter on social media and city authorities pages, but it stayed the same. Five years ago I moved out and everybody kept telling me that all is fine now, but here we are. 250 AQI is like, if nothing has changed at all in the past 10 years, I remember those very same numbers, average at about 150 in the winter with occasional spikes into 250s.

Dont worry guys. Our American cities just got totally deregulated with this stuff. Our rivers and beaches will be so fucked up with plastic and chicken factories, we’ll get you guys off the top 10 list in no time

I know Northern Italy is polluted because the mountains block the air from leaving and the area is heavily industrial, but why is Poland so polluted?
ichfickeiuliana on
Because of all the coal heating?

I wouldn’t trust this website. I lived in Asia for years, and I know for sure their cities are way more polluted than this table represents. IQAir uses cheap sensors, they don’t calibrate them over time, those are way more sensitive for temperature vs. humidity changes and therefore have to show data that are way off from reality. IQAir is like Nestle, just another company from Switzerland making shitty products.

I was thinking no way Sarajevo is in top 10, the air looks good today. But here we are at 9th.
So imagine how it looks like when we are at the top if it looks clean to me and we are still 9th.

Yeah, I worked in Krakow during the winter, insane level of pollution. Weirdly enough, most of the colleagues were not too keen on green energy although they were complaining about the smog.
Fine_Violinist5802 on
Too much focus on climate change, when there should be equal focus on local pollution as well. Burn coal, have shit air. It’s as simple as that. We shouldn’t just be supporting renewable energy for the externalities at a global scale. We can also look out the window, breath shit air, and want that to be better. Harming our lungs isn’t a prerequisite to employment and growth. It is a prerequisite to emphysema, cancer and a shorter, miserable life.

for sure this is not true, indian cities showing 999 now. total bullshitty table. I could not breat in india last time I visited. India is another level. Krakow weather ( I lived there) would be fresh super air for india.

If Poland could stop getting its electricity from coal, that would help.
