So with who do we now not have a free trade zone? Britain? /s

  2. Chester_roaster on

Someone tell the farmers we’re importing Indian beef.

  3. Betonkauwer on

Simply lovely! We can import ”indian” oil which suuuurely wasn’t drilled in russia!
    We just can’t stop winning!

Why………why are the EU and India sending so many diamonds to each other?! :))))))))

  5. Difficult_Knee_1796 on

Seeing the diamonds boxes on both sides reminds me of the old Brian Regan joke from way back about seeing two log trucks passing each other in opposite directions on on the road and thinking a phone call would’ve saved a lot of time lol.

If we take out Indian refined petroleum (with base crude mostly from Russia) exports, the trade is pretty much balanced (slightly in favour of India in $ terms). It will be interesting to see how trade grows when the FTA is implemented.

they should scrap mercosur and go with this instead

    mercosur bad, india good

Here’s a challenge: Name one sector where the EU has a competitive advantage.

  10. The single thing that worries me is food.

We constantly see videos on the Internet of how Indians produce food in factories. For example, I saw a video of a guy making ice cream cones **on the floor** kicking and touching them with his bare feet.

I don’t want this food sold in my country, honestly.

    > on the cusp

“Tariff king” India signing a FTA? Yeah, I’ll mark this one under “wishful thinking”.

Not that I’m against it, it would be great, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

  12. Few_Math2653 on

Personally I think this is less about current trade than about potential future trade that will become a reality given the lowering of tariffs and the further development of India.

  13. fianthewolf on

Yes, but the primary sector is left out of the agreement.

  14. koinaambachabhihai on

WTF? India is running a trade surplus even without the petroleum?

  15. protoctopus on

Can’t compete with Indian salary, so it will be more money for EU company and more unemployment in EU. A win for the rich, a loose for the worker.

  16. looks terrible. So unbalanced, that feels like EU gonna lose from it

  17. How much of that petrolium originally comes from russian oil pumps?

So you indirectly acknowledge the impact that Indian cuisine had on British cuisine, yet still go on to show your prejudice and disgust toward an entire culture/region based on a few pictures/videos you saw? Seems a bit hypocritical, no?

Not sure where you got that China ruled over South Korea, you might be confusing it with the Japanese? Unless you’re talking about ancient times, where maybe certain Chinese kingdoms had influence/rule over Korea.

You keep missing my point where I also blame corruption and other prevalent issues in Indian society for the lack of progress, even though it still managed to become the fastest growing major economy and is still moving in an upward trajectory compared to most of the world. But to think that Britain didn’t play any role in the negative impact that Indian and even other South Asian countries and their societies suffer from to this day, just shows your ignorance to the issue. If you believe stereotypes have some truth to them, there surely there must be some truth to British people having bad teeth and not washing their asses, no?

So much Refined Oil, probably from northern northern India

  20. oyurirrobert on

You do know that the “petroleum” box is actually produced in…. well… nevermind… I know you already know.

So refreshing to see competent adults come to a mutually beneficial trade agreement.

  22. OwlSlow1356 on

very nice…but…who will guard all of this to happen? where are the ships, planes and military for this?! india is not around the corner…

  23. Debesuotas on

I wonder how much of those machinery parts end up in russia :/

other than that, don`t forget that EU also made a trade agreement with South America countries. So it looks like a lot of new trade opportunities are going to open up real soon.

By the way, now you know why EU/US is looking to make middle east stable, the trade routes will go through that region. Including Ukraine, black sea, etc…

This trade deal will give a breathing room for both sides, allowing both the EU and India to create an alternative to the massive American marketing. Given the unpredictable and unstable leadership in DC, it would be sensible if our leadership can agree to trade in Euros and Rupees. This will allow EU countries to directly buy goods from the local markets, bypassing US shenanigans, while it will also lay the foundation of Euro becoming the next international currency beyond the Union.

  25. alikander99 on

Honestly it would be great. I think both can win a lot from this agreement.

On the European side, India is a gigantic market, which has almost unlimited potential. Gaining free access to it is a huge deal.

On the Indian side, Europe has richer consumers which can let India scale up the processing ladder (aka selling articles with more added value)

Time will tell, because both countries are probably gonna try to boicott the other side to gain the upper hand, but we’ll see.

  26. Jamnusor on

Where is the oil coming from for that 22bn Indian Refined Petroleum exports?

  27. The current exchange rate does not look favorable for us. What is the purpose of this agreement for us? Will we be flooded with cheap Indian products and will the deficit increase even more? We are already struggling with China.
