Listen, i don’t always like driving at 30kph either, but hasn’t Meloni got anything better to do than argue about local speed limits?
The same fight happened in The Netherlands between Amsterdam and the unelected bureaucrats from Den Haag.
After the introduction of the 30Km/h in Amsterdam the city was also not able to enforce it with speed cameras.
Wish Bologna best of luck in this fight, the auto lobby is not too far distant from the farmer lobby when it comes to grind everything to an halt for no particular reason.

I hope Bratislava will be one of the next cities to introduce 30 km/h limit.
Why not reduce to 10km/h to reduce fatalities even more at this point? /s
I hardly ever drive the full 50 in the city I live in anyway. Cities are clogged anyway and if a 30kmh limit reduces fatalities, I don’t see a problem with this. As long as the traffic lights are adjusted properly
30km/h is ridiculous lol
Why do we write kph instead of Km/h? Are we too lazy to type one more character or didn’t we go to school to learn kilo is a multiplier, not an unit of measure?
The hoops cities are willing to jump not to be bothered with actually fixing the infrastructure…
I’m pretty sure if we all commuted by horse carriage, there would also be a steep decline in fatalities. Doesn’t mean it’s a good idea though.
It’s 2026 and Italian Cities finally discover 30 kph zones. Not positively impressed, but better late than never.
Fatalities dropped from 18 in 2023 to 10 in 2024. Very low sample size.
This article is intentionally misleading.
The decision of reducing speed was put on hold by a court tribunal after the municipality was sued by taxi drivers representatives. This sentence is not final and will likely be appealed to the Constitutional Court
The reason for the sentence is because according to an existing law speed limits should be regulated based on the specific characteristic of the road, so a generalised speed limit is not possible.
The position of some in the national government has nothing to do with this court decision.

the ignorance of this comment section is actually fucking staggering. Do you people even know what Bologna looks like? The fact cars can even enter the city in the first place is already a stretch. Letting them drive around at 50 km/h, on flagstone streets that are less than 2 metres wide is absolutely fucking asinine. Even the suburbs have streets that are barely wide enough for ONE car.
Wait, there’s an Italian city named after a type of spaghetti?
Preventing road accident is woke
Italy and all of Europe should import US trucks that increase the risk of fatalities instead
And since a F150 is too big for the streets in Italian cities, they should demolish some of those old useless buildings too to make room for more 4 lanes streets
/s just in case
I live on a 50kph road in Luxembourg city. It is awful. The constant noise is just horrible. Drivers on their phones essentially driving intoxicated where my wife and I run and bike around. Maybe next time we will be richer so we can afford a better home… or maybe 30kph roads could cut noise and emissions significantly and give me and thousands of others dignity in where we live. I hope more and more European cities do right by their residents.
you know last year I spent some time in hospital and you would not believe how many patients are there because car accidents. cars and car centric infrastructure truly are dangerous and are drain on budgets
If you limit it to 5 kph, you can reduce it further!
Cant crash if you barely move. What an amazing scientific achievement
Most people who get hit at 30 km/h survive.
Most people who get hit at 50 km/h die.
