The elephant in the room here is that neither Putin nor Xi have ever shown any interest in Greenland; Russia already owns 2/3rds of Arctic territory.
This was never more than a smokescreen for Trump’s own designs on Greenland. Europe needs to stop humouring him. These troops aren’t being sent to deter Russia, but the United States.

I think Zelenskyy missed the point. They were not sent there to literally fight. They were sent there to show the orangutang that the European countries are ready to send troops there to defend against whatever threat that might show up. If an enemy had actually landed troops on the shores of Greenland, I expect the response would have been quite a bit harsher.
And to be fair, those 40 troops was enough to make Trump chicken out again.

They were logistics personnel and generals, that were preparing for a military exercise, and the long term deployment of more than a thousand troops in total. France has committed to sending 200 is the newest I’ve heard, and Denmark 1000.
According to the Danish defense ministry, this is still the plan. A vastly increased permanent miliary presence in Greenland.

In what way? Denmark is part of the EU and NATO. If anything, it shows that when the EU and NATO member is threatened, the other countries stand up to the threat. As a Pole I think it sends a great signal to Putin and makes me feel better.
Ukraine isn’t part of neither of the organisations, and even though no one was obliged to, the EU has been supporting it ever since the war started.
Trump is not his ally and never was, his promises mean nothing. He’s a Putin pawn.

I, for one, feel offended by Zelenskyy’s attack on Europe today. He was spouting Trump rhetoric. Europe are Ukraine’s main financial supporters during this Putin power play. We have also taken in and cared for their displaced citizens. In Ireland alone we have taken in and cared for over 110,000 Ukrainians. We are a small country and I’m sure the other countries in Europe have taken in a cared for multiples of this number.

It’s terrible what Putin has done in Ukraine but he has spent many years telling the world he was going to do it. Obviously this doesn’t justify Putins actions but it does question what Ukraine, USA and Europe were doing to prevent it.
