Also we never hear from community leaders on what they are doing in this situation….

How much would it cost to install CCTV? Every time there’s an act of vandalism or anti-social behaviour you stick that footage on TV and social media so all the scrotes and scroungers can see what their darling little angles are up to.
Fast track whatever legislation may be needed.

Community service orders for their parents might help. There are a lot of drains need unclogging and litter picked up.

Was litterally just after being completed when it was destroyed. There must be a better use of resources then to just try and make the place pretty without tackling fundamental social issues in the area.

I think ultimately the only way to deal with antisocial behaviour is to make parents legally and financially responsible for the actions of their children, and pursue them for financial reparations.

Will they consider building playgrounds out of non-flammable materials? Or will it all be plastic again?

That’s utterly sickening. And candidly, it’s not some mysterious “element” of society. I used bring my kids to that playground, and EVERY time there was some little group of scrotes there wrecking the place. Throwing glass inside the climbing fort thing for shits and giggles… I said it once .. that don’t go down well. Rang the guards another time. Store street rang me back 12 hours later. Wrote to the council and some poor person there replied to say they know, it happens all the time. Maybe Janet Horner should police the community and stop leaching money from the rest of us… we would LOVE a playground like that locally… but would they fuck build something like that in a middle class area? Fuck off!!

The parents need their dole docked to pay for this , it’s so frustrating paying for these losers to not only live but destroy what we work so hard to pay for .

What about spending some of that on CCTV and security?

I would be in favour of corporal punishment for youths involved in this kind of behaviour. Imprisonment is costly, and largely ineffective. Alternatives to detention can be pursued where there would be indications of amenability, but for repeat offenders, for those with indications that the alternatives will be ineffective, I genuinely believe some kind of swift physical, embarrassing punishment could help, followed by compulsory and public community service. Also name and shame the parents.

This is quite a reasonable cost to repair it.
Like, it’s only one and a half bike shelters, in fairness…

Are RTÉ not aware that there is more than one City Council in the country?

Can’t help but feel the exact same thing will happen again once it’s complete. I mean unless those lads got a battering for doing this. There would have been no punishment and nothing stopping it happening again.

The problem in Ireland especially in socioeconomic deprived areas is, there are playgrounds for kids, late teens can leave or are in college etc, but those that fall between this age group are ignored. And when there’s nothing to do and nowhere to go, they get up to this kind of shit. Lots of community groups or local community gardai stopped happening during COVID and never resumed. Obviously this was happening before COVID too, but having no amenities for this age group is part of the problem.
Not all kids are into sports so sports groups aren’t a one fit for all answer. And things that cost money aren’t accessible to lower income families. It’d be great if there were local after school life lessons things these kids could learn. I know there’s things like foreagé but it’s how to get these kids engaged in these groups.
