Were Arctic-trained US commandos being readied to invade Greenland?
A few days ago, the US Department of War placed about 1,500 troops on standby for deployment at any moment.
Officially, this order was made in case Donald Trump invokes the Insurrection Act and sends the US military into the city of Minneapolis. The personnel would be ready to stop activists from disrupting raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), following the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an agent, two insiders told American media outlets.
Yet the choice of unit being put on alert was unusual: paratroopers from the 11th Airborne Division, stationed in Alaska, trained to fight in the very coldest conditions. They’re nicknamed the Arctic Angels. Normally, they work with a different kind of ice.
There have been fears in Denmark that these commandos are not intended for an operation against American protesters. Instead, could they have been preparing to invade the Danish island?
Copenhagen-based security analyst Hans Tino Hansen says that the 11th Airborne are thought to have trained to seize airports in polar conditions in the last year. He believes plans were being made for special forces, such as the Navy Seals, to begin an annexation of Greenland, followed by a main force from the 11th.
Danish defence documents obtained by the newspaper Berlingske also revealed that US intelligence operatives last year attempted to convince officials in Greenland to share information about military installations, ports and air bases on the island, which would be crucial for launching an attack.
Although Trump has now said he won’t use force to put Greenland under UC control, Hansen worries that the US President is unpredictable and his words can’t be trusted.
Thomas Crosbie of the Royal Danish Defence College believes that if a US seizure were ever carried out, Denmark’s forces wouldn’t fight, with the country hoping that political pressure would force Trump to back down – but other defence figures have pledged that there would be armed resistance. That there would be war between Nato allies.

“A military source told the paper that during last year’s Joint Viking exercises in northern Norway, US units ran into serious difficulties. The source said the exercise command had to ask Finnish reservists, who were playing the role of the simulated enemy, to ease up on the American troops because their performance was becoming, in his words, humiliating and demoralising for the US side.”
Americans don’t realise what their government has done.
Not one ally in Europe will ever forget this, as long as we live. And that includes the Canadians. This is not over just because he said it was.

The threat remains, and the democrats just wholeheartedly voted for 800 billion for Trump to spend on military.

1,500 troops from Alaska is not enough to capture and hold anything. There is no real reason to be afraid of that alone.

No, he didn’t say that. The full quote is:
> “We probably won’t get anything **unless I decide to use excessive strength and force**, where we would be, frankly, unstoppable. But I won’t do that. Okay? Now everyone’s saying, ‘Oh, good.’ That’s probably the biggest statement I made, because people thought I would use force. But **I don’t have to use force**. I don’t want to use force. I won’t use force. **All the United States is asking for is a place called Greenland**.
(and continues talking about how strong the US military is)
First off, that is clearly a threat; secondly, it is clearly the expectation that he would be able to annex that part of Danish territory without facing resistance
So it’s kind of like someone robbing you at gunpoint and saying “Look at what a big gun I have. I won’t shoot you, okay? I don’t want to shoot you, I’m just asking for your wallet”. You have to be incredibly stupid to think they’re not threatening you in that case

The rumours are JSOC basically said no that’s illegal, and so did the joint chiefs. It’s interesting that Trump changed his tune so suddenly.
I’m convinced his comments at Davos were entirely face saving, and that someone powerful has told him in no uncertain words to stop it, or something unspecified that is bad would happen to him

In news in Nordics today it became known the Danish reinforcements was sent with live ammunition and instructions on guerilla warfare vs the Americans. (This is big since live ammunition is never brought to excercises otherwise sue to the risk of mishappenings)
It is still real. You seriously will let them build landing strips on your territory ?

Dear god if the tier two reserve is going 100-0 they should not be near our 20-yo conscripts or the actual solidiers.

But they aren’t trained in seizing airports, like you said. So hopefully you did learn something.
Nor is the only way to invade Greenland an airborne drop. Probably one of the worst ways to do it in fact. They could just land planes at their bases, and the airport.
