I’ve convinced everyone I deem important contacts that I regularly message with to move to Signal like parents, sisters, grandparents, our team at work (off hours banter), closest friends etc. Most probably still have Whatscrap also but atleast I know our conversations are safe as they can be.

I use it only with a group of friends. We share a specific hobby and someone in our group has been using it so we use it for that.

I’ve been a Signal user since it was still under “Open Whisper Systems”, around a decade ago…
At the time, I just dropped WhatsApp and gave everyone I know a choice: either return to SMS / calls or download Signal. “My days of feeding Meta/Facebook my information are done.”
The intense resistance this was met with was quite something to experience. “If you ask me to download Signal why can’t you just download WhatsApp?”
No amount of “privacy”, “security”, or any other combination of words was sufficient enough, so I stopped bothering to explain. Over the years, most have come “back”, now on Signal.
I had to smile when a friend from long ago said “I remembered you use Signal so I had to try it because I don’t fucking trust Meta.” I hear you, loud and clear!
Now I fully understand the “5 types of adopters”. I was not an innovator, but maybe an early adopter. Most people I know are certainly “laggards”.
Life can be, uh… interesting.

We use signal, our parents, friends etc. All our friends deleted whatsapp and other meta products 6-7 months a go. And i think only one or two are back in instagram.

I primarily use Signal. Most of the chatgroups I have with my friends, switched to Signal a few years ago. Reasons being ~~better~~ verifiable encryption of messages and no Meta.
Sadly still have whatsapp, couple of friends on that side. Anyhow over 90% of my messaging/calls go trough Signal.

After everything going down over there, I figured it was time to first get off Meta and then even Google.
I’m not there yet, but Signal together with Jottacloud and Proton are some steps in the right direction.
