I wonder whether there’s a way for Canada to be some form of “associate member” without requiring full integration?

  2. What? Canada’s not in the Eurovision song contest yet, surely it should be Australia first

  3. PerfectPackage1895 on

Would be fucking funny if Canada joined the european union. It would be even more funny if states like Minnesota left USA and joined EU along with Canada

  4. This is their long term strategy all aimed at being part of the Eurovision song contest. Joke’s on you Canada, if you win it you have to host it suckers!

  5. glamscum on

Nah, Canada is not in Europe. Although it is a very cherished ally and we are close. That’s enough.

  6. Fearless_Pianist_846 on

We can swap them for Hungary.

Americans would love to have the fascist Orbán and his people beside them.

Win win, EU gets a progressive, humane country like Canada instead.

We just need to cut it loose and to some place in the Atlantic. Should be easy.

    lol no 🤪

A close partnership would be good and achievable. EU membership can´t even be on the table until Canad has sorted out things internally. Their own internal market is a mess and their economy is intertwined with that of the US.

If usa, china and Russia wants to dominate parts if the world, it makes perfect sense for the EU to break free from such dominance.

Come along Canada. This Dane invites you in.

A closer relationship would definitely benefit both sides

I think the idea would be hilarious to have Canada in the EU and to help them achieve pedestrian focused walkable infrastructure right across the nose of the US.

On a more serious note, if they’re in favor, I’d be open to having them. Same with Japan, S.Korea, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand.

Closer economic integration among the western powers would be great.

Though, I’m also for federalising the EU, so that might be more difficult to reconcile.
Perhaps if federalising is what’s the goal for the current, European EU

I approve. What do you think we should name it? CanEu, pronounced “canoe” 😉 but seriously, it’s great idea to integrate closely as possible when US obviously has a mad king and runs straight into the abyss.

Maritimes and Quebec first, then Lower Canada if it works out.

  14. How about they dont join anyone and just do better business with smarter partners.

A lot of this talk is just silly. Canada will not be joining the EU and it will not be the 51st state. Canada will be Canada.

Its currently a trend in Canada to diversify trade (mainly towards Europe and Asia), this is good, and this will continue. But in the long-run, Canada’s economy will still remain heavily heavily integrated with the US economy and the US will remain Canada’s dominant import/export partner.

Canada joining the EU would be extremely expensive and disruptive towards the Canadian economy which is essentially designed to export to the US market.

    No shit…

Who in their right mind would want to be associated with America?!

    Ew!

  17. It will be interesting to see how the integrated rail infrastructure reaches Canada 🙂 maybe we can start making a tunnel under the north pole?

Meanwhile Britain is moving full force towards a Farage MAGA government because “Starmer’s a bit useless”, just like the Americans though they wanted some action not a brown liberal woman, and now they are getting executed on the streets.

Canada in the EU seems like a bureaucratic mess, but I’m all for tighter cooperation. At least they’re able to elect a competent and not senile leader, that’s very good considering what other countries are doing at the moment.

  20. Canada’s very welcome in the EU. It’d be great for all of us.

  21. Intergalatic_Baker on

Or they could throw a complete curveball and choose neither and instead convincing Britain and Australia and New Zealand to form CANZUK… 🙂

I am all for closer ties and cooperation with Canada, military and economically. With figures like the orange Mussolini in the white house we should support each other in every way possible. But I think we need to do some restructuring of our union before looking to expand, certainly before expanding so far outside of our own continent, if that’s something we should do at all (probably not).

  23. plzdontbanme61 on

We will take Alberta. Rest of Canada seems like a lost cause.

It is possible to get much, much closer with Canada in terms of the EU-Canada relationship, without having Canada join the EU. We could essentially include them in the free-trade and movement area, like how Norway is part of the EEA but not EU.

Let’s start there instead of going straight to a long-distance marriage. Not saying I wouldn’t want them in the EU, but let’s start with what makes sense. Tighten our relationship.

Canada has 2 milion Indians, 1 milion Chinese, 1 milion Philippino, half a milion Nigerian and Cameroon….

  26. 8pin-dip on

True.. but I would prefer NOT to have an EU passport, simply because it could mean EU people could flood Canada. Not a “bad” thing… but it is if foreign interests are trying to use the EU as a way to further destabilize Canada.

  27. BlackMushrooms on

    Slap🤣
But why not let Canada stay a sovereign nation, and stay an awesome EU ally? Mabye get som better trade deals aswell for both parties. I’d love som Canadian cuisine!
