Centinaia di persone hanno protestato nel quartiere Kazimierz di Cracovia contro il progetto di sfrattare residenti e imprese da una serie di edifici storici di proprietà della chiesa per trasformarli in un hotel di lusso.
La manifestazione, davanti alla chiesa dove ha sede l’ordine che possiede le tre case popolari, è stata co-organizzata dalla deputata locale di sinistra Daria Gosek-Popiołek e ha visto la partecipazione anche del sindaco di Cracovia, Aleksander Miszalski, che ha promesso di agire.
I manifestanti hanno esposto striscioni con la scritta “No alla gentrificazione” e “Kazimierz per i locali”. Hanno creato finti avvisi di morte per le attività commerciali sfrattate, tra cui molti dei bar, boutique e gallerie shabby-chic per i quali il quartiere è noto, come Eszeweria, un pub che è una parte iconica della fiorente vita notturna di Kazimierz.

This famous institution operated on the principle of plunder. The Church said “give it to me!”, and the authorities gave without a murmur. Land, schools, hospitals. Without the right to vote of the interested parties, without the right to appeal. It does not take any legal culture to immediately notice the thieving construction of this Bolshevik “institution”, which insults all the principles of the rule of law. This monstrous fetus of the dying commune and the hungry church invited embezzlement, and indeed the tip of the iceberg of these frauds, which is revealed by the press, may astonish many a cynic.
