>The drone was intercepted on Wednesday while it was approximately 10 kilometres from the port of Malmö, where the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is stationed.
>
>A drone was detected and neutralised on Wednesday 25 February by Swedish forces as it headed towards the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, currently docked in Malmö (Sweden), according to the French Armed Forces Headquarters on BFMTV. The drone was intercepted approximately 10 kilometres from the port.
>
>This is the first time that the French aircraft carrier has been in Sweden, ‘thereby strengthening maritime security in the region and highlighting the close operational ties with our Swedish ally,’ according to the French defence attaché in that country.
>
>‘Strengthening ties with our allies in the region’
>
>The ship, which set sail from Toulon on 27 January and took part in the major French-led ‘Orion 26’ exercise, is continuing its ‘Lafayette 26’ mission in the North Atlantic. During its deployment, which is scheduled to last until May, the French naval air group is to participate in NATO’s Baltic Sentry mission in the Baltic Sea, designed to deter threats to submarine infrastructure following cable cuts attributed to Moscow.
>
>It will also participate in Steadfast Dart in the Baltic Sea, Neptune Strike and Cold Response, a multinational exercise organised by Norway.
>
>‘The aircraft carrier and its escort allow us to deploy many escort frigates to conduct exercises in the Baltic Sea, exercises in the Norwegian Sea, and exercises further afield in the Atlantic,’ said Rear Admiral Thibault Haudos de Possesse, without specifying the exact distribution during these various manoeuvres.
>
>In addition to its deterrent and discouraging effect, this deployment aims to ‘strengthen ties with our allies in the region, to learn, or relearn, how to work together and improve all the time,’ he added.
>
>Russian submarines from the Northern Fleet or the Baltic Fleet regularly manoeuvre in this area. The presence of the aircraft carrier ‘is indeed a very important signal, showing that France is capable of deploying its carrier strike group, which is a major instrument of power projection (…) and of working interoperably with the capabilities of our allies,’ said French Ambassador to Sweden Thierry Carlier.
>
>The French carrier strike group includes the aircraft carrier and its aircraft, as well as various escort and support vessels, such as several frigates, a supply ship and an attack submarine. In addition to its significant operational capabilities, it also serves as a strategic and diplomatic communication tool.
It’s not confirmed from the Swedish side if it was shoot down.
>In connection with the sighting, the Swedish Armed Forces took countermeasures to jam the suspected drone. Contact with the drone was subsequently lost.

Oh, it’s one of the 1.8 months per year when Charles de Gaulle is out of port/drydock? Lucky.
I live fairly close. 3 hours drive. Might take my kids and drive down and see it. Anyone know how long they plan on staying in malmö?
What kind of drone? Multicopter, fixed wing? A consumer drone or a professional one?
Good job French Navy / Airforce
Not shot down. Electronic countermeasures were deployed and it’s unknown if the drone crashed into the sea or returned to the vessel it came from.
