The Irish Government terrified of doing anything meaningful to stand up to the obvious price gouging that is going on

General knowledge? Sports? Brain teasers? What are they being quizzed on??

Who will quiz the government over its extortionate fuel duties and taxes that make up 60% of petrol and diesel price per litre?

Did you really have to jack the price up?

    Yeah.

*sighs* well sure i s’pose thats fair enough

It will be like when I ask my dog why it shat on the floor. Nothing will happen

I do wonder what would happen if one of the suppliers said something along the lines of “this is a market economy, buy the product or don’t.”

I actually think the honesty would be quite refreshing.

The government makes more money when the price is high, publicity stunt

Drove by one petrol station today where unleaded was 189.9 and another one on the other side of the road about 500 metres down was 179.9. This doesn’t make sense anymore

Martin will say some waffle like “in the broader sense”

In fairness, most stations around me that usually only get weekly fills have not upped their prices. Manager in the local says they make more money out of a cup of coffee than a 45L tank of fuel.

What does need to be challenged is that 60% of a tank of diesel is tax – so for a 10c increase on the pump price, the government gets 6c of that. They stand to gain more than the stations!

Go in portlaoise went from 1.74 to 1.89 within a day or 2. They only had 2 lorries in at the same time delivering fuel the other day. Drove by a few times yesterday and was delighted to see the forecourt empty on each occasion. We’re meant to have 6 months worth of reserves and I was only talking to a person who was very high up in NORA last night who confirmed that. It’s absolute price gouging. But I hope that your man who runs that shop doesn’t sell a single sweet in the next while over his greed.
