It’s amazing how Trump can openly insult the UK, our government, and the memories of soldiers who have died fighting for their interests – yet we still follow their call every time. Why are we following this illegal, messy, unpopular war under the false pretence of “defensive operations”?

  2. andykkkkk on

Like why can’t we have a coherent message here? One day we make a big statement saying they can’t use them but then a week later it’s completely reversed

Sure enough, any semblance of courage Starmer had in standing up to Trump and not getting the UK *directly* involved in this conflict has melted away. Was perhaps foolish to think his cowardly tendencies wouldn’t get the better of him and see him kowtow to the US sooner rather than later. Spain has shown that standing up to Trump on this is more than feasible, but no, Starmer would rather ensure the UK is a good little vassal state.

It’s vile enough involving the UK in another illegal war in the Middle East, but this puts *all of us* in so much more danger, and for what? The interests of Israel and the US?

  4. RoyalJacko on

The way Trump has talked about us and singled us out while using our bases – now we give in to even more of his demands. How long do you think it will take for him to talk more crap about us? We have a humiliation ritual.

  5. bigonebitey99 on

Starmer was doing so well on this issue for the past 2/3 weeks, why does he have to ruin it again with another u-turn

  6. OneAlexander on

Feels like we maybe should have waited until Dragon was actually in position and we could fully defend Cyprus before publicly announcing this…

  7. AnxiousCells on

Where is Starmer’s backbone? I don’t want to be involved in an illegal war or coerced into it. I understand oil prices are sky rocketing but that’s not our business to fix. USA created this mess, they have won the war, haven’t they? They said they didn’t need us, and so we can leave them be to sort it out.

  8. Necessary-Product361 on

Trump spits in our face and all Starmer does is swallow

  9. Over-Key-1691 on

Fuck that, tell these cunts to fuck off after that orange motherfuckers comments.

Get them the fuck out of our bases.

450 + British soldiers died fighting for them in Afghanistan and Iraq. Absolutely never again.

  10. Hairy_Beginning_5496 on

Not surprised if anything I’d be surprised he even lasted 2 weeks. Wet wipe starmer strikes again

  11. alexmlb3598 on

Well he found a way to mess this up. Don’t think anyone had any issues with only allowing defensive operations, but allowing offensive actions is going to get us involved. And this is after that orange turnip insulted our nation’s troops of cowering behind the front lines, said of Kier that ‘he’s no Churchill’, and accusing of NATO not getting involved to help the war aims he started, but also said he doesn’t need help bc it’s won.

If I was on Akrotiri, Dhekelia, or any other UK base in the Middle East area, I’d be VERY worried. This is gonna give Iran carte blanche to attack any UK base.

  12. like they telling them anything what they stiking from those bases. What a load of BS

FFS Starmer, just when I was beginning to like you. What a bloody melt. I thought he was displaying some backbone and there was something resembling a united front amongst European allies, and indeed most of our politicians and the British population. It’s only a few of the more extreme Reform types who think getting involved in this conflict is a good idea.

Trump has spent the past few weeks insulting us and constantly changing his message. He wants help, now he doesn’t want help, now he wants help again, the war is already won, oh no it isn’t, etc. There’s no coherent plan, even between the USA and Israel. It’s a war that’s even messier with an even flimsier excuse than Iraq.

Does Britain want more refugees? Because that’s how you get more refugees.

  14. West-Holiday-8425 on

Oh my fucking god he’s such a fucking walkover. He lets Trump shittalk him and our entire country over and over, berate us, disrespect our troops, people, opinions and culture and then after finally seeming to grow a fucking spine he crumbles after like two days, just after people start to respect him for not kowtowing to the US for the first time.

  15. Hufflepuffins on

Destroyed practically all the political goodwill he’d earned thus far and putting British lives at risk just so he can appease a lunatic who’ll decide he hates all again next week. Another masterful Sir Keir Starmer gambit!!

  16. brocanyouchillout on

why?!? this is not our war? the usa has constantly slagged off the uk. we really are just an abused housewife that can’t keep away huh. is the uk government masochists or what

  17. Inspector_Frog on

I don’t see how this changes anything. Starmer allowed offensive operations from UK airbases by the US weeks ago so long as the targets were drone or missile launch sites.

  18. KingThorongil on

This is still within the scope of what he allowed earlier: defensive strikes at locations Iran is launching missiles from.

  19. Electrical_Mango_489 on

If that Strait isn’t opened many countries will be f**ked, so no this isn’t Blair/Iraq.

  20. Sea-Payment-8989 on

Starmer should have suggested to Trump that a better use of available attacking aircraft would have been for Israeli bombers to have helped there instead of targeting Irans gas field.

However we are were we are, but given the recent veiled threats made to Yvette Cooper by the Iranian foreign Minister when we only allowed the US to use our airfields for defensive purposes only, I can well see some military base being targeted by Iranian terror cells, (or ‘false flag’ agents), in Britain, which would cause a real headache for the Government.

  21. H_Moore25 on

How the fuck does he manage to ruin every single opportunity for him to look positive and capable?

  22. Darrenb209 on

I’m genuinely torn on this. On the one hand I don’t like the escalation. On the other hand, something did have to be done about Iran targeting neutral shipping in the straits. Iran’s actions are a breach of international law and are also legally piracy.

  23. Armodeen on

Please please just tell Trump to fuck off, it’s what the British people want according to polling. The electorate has been very clear that they want no part of this war of aggression.

  24. PayInternational5287 on

Finally some balls for Starmer, although as usual it’s a flip flop

  25. hello050 on

Doesn’t this mean Iran can now strike the British bases? I’m not sure Iran has missiles that travel that far, but I believe the bases are now a legitimate target.

  26. dont_open_the_bag on

A weasel enabling a warmonger as is the status quo for America’s vassal states

  27. Diligent_Craft_1165 on

The far left angry we’re letting someone else use our base to defend our interests. With the strait shut we’re baling out energy bills this winter and mortgage rates are projected to go above 5% based on a short dispute. A long closure will mean Liz truss rates back.

The far right angry we aren’t wiping Iran off the planet.

    Poor old Kier can’t win.

  28. voxo_boxo on

So disappointing. I’d happily pay more for fuel if it meant we didn’t do the orange gibbon’s bidding.

  29. FuzzBuket on

Get insulted and then immediately capitulate? Loser behavior.

Anyway I’m glad that we tie our energy costs to gas, I’m sure helping the US create instability in the region causing gas prices to skyrocket is gonna really help the cost of living.

Irans done awful awful things to their own people,  but we shouldn’t be enabling the US and Israels mission to cause havoc, focus should be for forcing them to the negotiating table and ensuring that they don’t attack during negotiations again.

I don’t enjoy targets being painted on British troops because netenyahu and the religious extremists in his govt have expansionist dreams.

  30. ogerloaf on

Ha ha as if we thought two tier U-Turn Pussy Starmer would stick to his guns. Great so now we are at war with Iran. This will soon spill out into our streets.

  31. holycarrots on

Starmer just exposed himself as an Israeli asset. A truly shameful day in British history

  32. Working-Lifeguard587 on

Let’s get this straight. We are meant to be working towards de-escalation so we can end this farce, but instead we are making it easier for the Americans to strike Iran. Providing military infrastructure for strikes is a significant step toward war, not away from it. It draws the UK deeper into the conflict. It removes a layer of restraint , and undermines our ability to be a moderating influence. Absolute joke. But hey , it’s the same government that is selling weapons to Israel while it is carrying out a genocide. I hope they get totally wiped out in the elections.

  33. Unfortunately, the moment Iran blocked Hormuz, we were always gonna have to take action of some kind. This is the lesser of all options available.

  34. thematrixhasyoum8 on

All the people crying will be blaming the government when petrol are through the roof

  35. Astriania on

Why? This is a terrible move that puts our bases at risk (as valid military targets), we should be telling the US and Israel to solve their own problem.

This is clearly support for offensive strikes, it involves us in a way that even the plausible deniability is gone. And for what benefit? To placate a clown who insults and demeans us at every turn?

It isn’t even that strategic for our interests, not much of our energy comes through there anyway.

Just when I thought Starmer might actually be doing something good.

  36. Infinite-Math-1046 on

A fair compromise. Don’t like the Americans currently under trump but realistically it serves our interests whilst not using our military.

    Another good job by Starmer!

  37. AceOfSpades532 on

Oh Starmer you fucking melon, I don’t think he even wants Labour to do well next election at this rate

  38. Skippymabob on

For all those in this thread claiming Starmer was good up until now, or that this is a U-turn etc.

This is the same policy of defence we have had for a week, nothing has changed

  39. thecheesecreature on

Oh for fuck sake, let the orange clown bury himself, why get involved
