Ragazzi, cosa c’entra la luna/il sole stasera? Sono giù a Offaly e sembra che il sole sia ancora fuori ma coperto. Come sarebbe un’eclissi, ma è a ovest di me dove mi aspetterei che il Sole tramonti.

I think what you’re trying to describe is that you can see a faint outline of the entire moon, even though just a thin crescent is illuminated.
This is actually caused by “earthshine” – light from the sun bouncing off Earth and illuminating the moon. You can only really see it on a very clear night with a very extreme waxing or waning crescent or a new moon. Tonight it’s waxing with only 3% illumination.
First time looking at the moon?
Don’t worry, I know someone in her 30s that found out that the moon can be up and visible during the day.
