Honestly our museums and galleries are something we should be really proud of, and the fact you can visit many of them for free is wonderful.

I went recently, it was absolutely fantastic. Room after room of interesting animals, rocks, exhibits and stuff. The place looked immaculate including the outside gardens, cafes, shop etc. I am a big fan of the Tate Modern too, just full of absolutely barmy stuff that changes all the time.

Great space, but even on weekdays feels vastly overcrowded

Last time I went was in 2021 when it was not long after lockdown and international travel was still heavily restricted and it was so quiet and amazing, having most of the rooms to yourself and all the time you needed to look at things without having to wait for people to move. If I went back now I probably wouldn’t find it nearly as enjoyable an experience.

Hopped on a train to London last year and had a whole day out just walking round various free museums. Really recommend it if you’re stuck wanting to get out but not knowing what to do. NHM is right down the road from Victoria Albert which is another great free museum.
Only complaint I had for NHM, I remember going a few times as a small kid, I’m in my mid-30s now and quite a few of the displays literally have not been moved or changed in that entire time. Some of them are looking a little dated and tired now imo.

Try to go once or twice a year (live in the North West, and especially for the Wildlife Photographer of the year display). Its amazing and worth the travel. So it the British Museum and Imperial War museum.

I think fair enough, its a wonderful museum and building. I went recently and the amount of specimens and just stuff to see that you get for free is mindboggling, and its probably one of my favourite pieces of architecture to boot.
The pokemon pop-up probably wont hurt it’s numbers for 2026 either lol.

We went with the eldest a few years ago and it was great, but next time we’re going in a cooler season/winter because it was sooooo hot inside that building. Bless ‘em the staff were trying so hard with humongous fans and extra benches.
