You can’t just sterilise any piece land forever because something bad happened there. Awful as the Mother and Baby Homes and associated institutions were this simply doesn’t merit permanent stasis.

The best thing the state can do to rectify its abdication of responsibility for past generations of Ireland’s youth is to provide present and future generations with housing.

There’s always an excuse *not* to build more houses or apartments…

Do the excavations if there’s an investigation to be done but dont keep it as just because something bad happened there.

Sounds like a perfect reason to build over it. Finally use the land for something good.

Follow the money. Who gains from this if it goes ahead? And who has already gained?

I’ve always thought we should follow the example of what Canada has done with former residential schools
Let the people and familes of those who were affected by these instutions decide how to approach them.
Some of thoese former buildings in Canada were demolished as by the wishes of those affected, but many have been converted into memorials, or cultural education centres
