Just in case people were worried that there was a risk that anyone else, apart from Pensioners and dossers would get fuel support!

Of course it should be targeted and not universal. Why would we increase our national debt to help millionaires pay their energy bills?

End marginal pricing!!!!!! There is no need for it to be the way we set our energy prices
Also Speed up the move to renewables

Yeah lets keep taxing people earning £50k more and more and giving it to those on minimum wage and not long until everyone will have the same amount

A reminder that Liz Truss’ Energy Price Guarantee gave the richest households in the country disproportionately more support than the poorest.

How are France doing?
Last time prices were an issue, it was evident they had a huge advantage because of their push to renewables.
We are decades behind on everything, sick man of the north sea because we’re not even in Europe anymore.

Why is this government so obsessed with means-testing? This can only go down two ways: either only the very rich will be excluded, in which case the savings will be very small and the implementation will definitely cost more, or the middle-earners (between £30k-£100k) will get squeezed both sides.

No one should be getting support with energy bills. If 20% of the world’s energy is off the market, then we need to use 20% less until it’s back.

Ironic that the Tories actually provided support across the board the last time there was an energy crisis.
NuNu Labour – more Tory than the Tories.

Universal support on bills doesn’t even make sense.
At the end of the day what it would mean is that you tax everyone to then distribute the money to everyone.
Almost everyone, at least households, uses roughly the same amount of gas and electricity within about a factor of 2.
They should honestly just leave it alone and use the money to invest in infrastructure. Handouts are just kicking the can down the road.

Correct decision – not sure anyone can make an argument that universal support provides Value for Money.
Obviously the next step is doing the targeting correctly…..

Not good enough from her. We pay our taxes and again the government does not look after all of us. Just there vote base. We will not forget this.

BBC will be rolling out more middle class pensioners wearing Rolex watches and living in a nice four bedroom house they own to complaining they aren’t getting any help towards their next holiday fund.

Lol, this r/ is now officially fully half petit bourgeois and the other 50% crazy far left of the political spectrum.
Have to say, though, kudos to the user having a proper whinge about being on 50k+ and flipping out over this. Takes balls to actually say something like that with zero self awareness.
And she’s completely right, we need to direct the money to where it is most needed. Truss crippled our finances giving the rich a payout they didn’t need.

This is why the system is so broken at the moment.
Of course anyone middle class and above is against paying more tax. Essentially anyone that works will never see any benefit from the tax they pay.
You can state the NHS, but honestly it’s such poor quality half the time. I know my experience with it has been awful anyway.

Right now, tax paying workers are covering the state pension costs of the remaining silent generation, the wealthy boomers, and older GenX, plus an ever growing welfare state covering a growing contingent of mental health disorders, and we have a population of almost 70m.
It’s unsustainable. We need a new system.

That’ll be another one aimed at the boomer pensioners then! Nothing ever changes.

It didn’t have to get his way. We literally discovered how to harness the energy released by splitting atoms as well as how to turn sunlight itself into free energy but we squandered it to become the sick old man of Europe

Unfortunately this only fuels the opinion that this gov supports those who don’t work and taxes the working even harder.
The feeling growing is exactly that why should “I” work hard and get taxed to oblivion while other’s don’t work and receive more state support.
I know the ins and outs of this are a whole topic in itself. But this won’t help not fuel that “feeling”
