    >Britain pursuing closer ties with the European Union will “not be viewed favourably” in the White House if it in any way affects the trading relationship between the UK and US, Washington’s ambassador to the UK has warned.

    >Warren Stephens said that the government’s recent decision to adopt over 70 European rules onto the UK statute book was likely to “be a problem” in Washington if it threatens the recently struck deal with the US.

    >“The relationship between the US and the EU is… a lot more difficult than the UK,” the diplomat said at a British Chambers of Commerce conference in London. “To the extent, and saw this week that the British government is going to put 76 laws or rules back on the books, to the extent that affects US trade and requirements, that’s going to be a problem.”

I am sure this will be received very positively in Britain.

Trump will be gone in 2029, if not sooner. The EU will be around for a very long time comparitively.

    The math is easy.

The only new thing is that the Trumpians openly express their disdain for the EU.

Brexit has been a gift to them, they want the EU to be broken up so they can bully each member state individually, just like they do with the UK now.

For this reason alone Brexit was a catastrophic mistake. It set the precedent and the usual suspects smell blood.

Only a united Europe stands in their way, only a united Europe is strong enough to withstand the many enemies the continent has. There is no alternative.

    USA can go do one.

All trump has done has made former allies ties closer and themselves weaker and seen as a liability

What closer ties? The EU seem intent on scuppering them. Quoting an extortionate amount to join SAFE, demanding Britain subsidises EU students studying at British Uni’s. Don’t think the US really has to worry that much tbh.

  7. The relationship is only difficult because of the worthless, corrupt freaks in the White House.

If you beat yourself in the face, you can’t blame others for it.

  9. Funny how Trumps policy of saying the quiet part aloud is just taken as given throughout his political web. An ambassador feels he can happily outline his toxic views and expect his host country to bow down and say yes sir. Irony being Trump 2.0 is the best thing to happen for European unity going forward. In or out of the EU, we’re all European first and foremost, and I don’t think some yanks understand the difference.

“UK’s closer ties with EU are a problem”…for Putin, his US lackeys (and their supporters) and their plans to feed their narcissism and proceed with a multitude of illegal schemes that any sane people should oppose.

If only there were things the US could do(or shouldn’t have done) to make closer ties to the US appealing. Nobody drive a wedge between the uk and US other than Trump(the US).

The Trump admin is probably just looking for more reasons to cause problems rather than any sort of concern about U.K.-US trade.

    Sod off

  13. given the USA president is ridiculing the British PM, I think no one will fault for the UK to get closer to the EU

Trumps an idiot. He makes the same mistakes that Russia literally just made. In threatening the world all its done is make new partnerships and allies

Kremlin speaking through the state department again. Interesting.

Good. Make the ties even closer, bind them even tighter, squeeze out the poison.
