Decenni di declino economico hanno “distrutto” i cittadini britannici, spingendo un quinto della popolazione verso la povertà e verso la riforma politica

But we have carried on growing as a population without accompanying economic growth.
We have had two corrupt regimes back to back. Our wealth is siphoned into the pockets of the elites by their personal politicians.
For me the most annoying thing about moving back to UK after 30 years working abroad is the culture of ‘they’. They should do better, they should pick up rubbish, they should find me a job, they should do this, do that.
Just go out there and start doing things yourself. Pick up rubbish, help a neighbour, set up a small business, volunteer. Sure, it won’t unbreak Britain, but it will help a tiny bit, make you feel better, and you will make friends who also want to improve themselves and society, which again makes you feel better.
TLDR – whining Pom is a real thing. Stop it and go do stuff instead
two problems are:
1. UK government income from oil and gas has been dropping for dropping on average for some years:

2. Almost all state owned assets and services have been sold off.
Both of these were use to keep taxes low – with that income dropping, it is very difficult to avoid increasing taxes.
The UK could have used the income for oil and gas to establish a sovereign wealth fund, as Norway did and which is now the largest in the world. But instead of thinking about the long term, UK politicians focused on short term tax cuts.
The transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich is by far the main issue. When you read about xx person now making millions, that money didn’t just pop into existence, it was transferred.
Tax avoidance costs all of us over 30 billion a year. Far far far higher than illegal immigrants cost us.
The only growth we’ve had is in population. Imo the jobs growth we’ve had has been in logistics and retail. It seems to me that most skilled blue collar jobs have offered no decent apprenticeships, a draw bridge has been pulled up, coupled with expensive energy job will likely disappear, either offshored or AI taking the job
Billionaires are playing people like a fiddle. Tories came to power after years of benefit claimants bashing, then they switched to vilifying Eastern Europeans to hold on to power and now it’s asylum seekers and all the other migrants they let in in record numbers. And the answer? REFORM, which is essentially Tories on steroids. Not only completely beholden to the ultra wealthy but also utterly incompetent and cruel.
