Im not sure having dedicated laws for every type of tragedy is a good thing. Id much rather have a general sickness/compassionate leave policy and leave it at that – no need to compell people to spell out every horrific tragedy to their colleagues.

Good. We should apply that to the rest of the UK too, as far as I’m aware the Employment rights act will provide unpaid miscarriage (as part of bereavement) leave for England, Scotland and Wales.

I’d also appreciate period leave. Periods can be diabolically painful and the pain can be unpredictable.

  3. A few years back my boss and his partner went through this. Those above him gave zero fucks. He took a couple of days off, there was no check in, no offer to chat through things, just concern for any impact to client deliverables.

The only way to make these fucking ghouls treat humans as such is to make it a legal obligation. This is a great step.

And yes, I’m aware there are business leaders that look after their people. I just haven’t met one in my 20 years of working.

Ni’s paid miscarriage leave is a huge step forward, it’s about time we acknowledge the physical and emotional toll of miscarriage and support people through it with concrete actions like paid leave
