A) this is the MEAN, which is quite skewed from the more interesting MEDIAN
B) this is DISPOSABLE household income. According to the article this is net of taxes, social contributions, mandatory health insurance and alimony payments
C) In case it’s not clear to someone, it’s HOUSEHOLD income. A household on average has something like 1.3x working adults on average as well as some fraction of dependent children.
So for pretty much every actual, real household, it’s a bad comparison. A dual income no kids household will obviously have significantly higher income and lower expenses than a single parent of 2 kids.
Compare yourself at your own risk!
D) One interesting takeaway: apparently only 4.5% of income comes from assets (as opposed to a job, pension or social benefits). Given how rich many Swiss are, I somehow expected this number to be quite a bit higher! You already reach that through dividends by „only“ having 1-2 yearly salaries invested into a broad index fund. And many rich people have much more than that invested!
