If your partner has non consensually strangled you, your chances of being murdered by that partner spike astronomically (some sources claim as high as 750%)
43% of women murdered by their partner have previously been strangled by him.

Ah yes, I see we’re now getting the slew of news articles to manufacture consent for the government continuing to police the internet and shut down people’s sexual freedoms.
If you’re being intimate with someone, don’t do something to your partner that you aren’t A: both consenting to, B: Aware and managing the risks of.
If you’re a government, stop kinkshaming people through legislative force.

I thought this was just a thing that Reddit weirdos talked about, it’s kinda shocking that people actually do it. I honestly wouldn’t be able to bring myself to do it, even if my better half wanted me to.

I think men not understanding (or caring) about consent is a much bigger issue than just attempting to ban strangling on porn. All the women in this article were raped.
These men coersed and/or assaulted them, not knowing or caring about consent, or even safety.
Rough sex can be safe, wanting to outright ban these kinda things just ignores the real issue. It also gives any of these men an excuse of “it wasnt banned before, oops”

Been a handful of times I’ve had a hookup put their hand around my neck during sex. Not strangling though.
Like I’m into that. But please ask first. Guys just assume you’re into kinks. Too much porn watching.

I’ve never understood the appeal of strangling. Is misogyny sexy now?
I would have thought feeling hateful or negative towards your sexual partner during intercourse would distract and diminish the pleasure of having sex. That’s not even considering the worry that you’re making the experience less enjoyable for your partner or even hurting her. Surely that’s a turn-off. Then you’ve got to consider the consequences if you do hurt them – the loss of trust in the relationship, the immediate spin-down of fun-time and the actual harm done, which could be severe.
There must have been a part of guy who strangled “Sophie” and led to her having a seizure that must have been disappointed that the sex was over. I know that is an intolerable selfish way to look at things after the fact, but to all men who are hoping to get some, they try their best to ensure nothing gets in their way if they think they’re in with a chance. So let this be a reminder to any red-blooded man that hasn’t worked out choking your sexual partner is inherently a bad thing: Don’t strangle her, you might lose your opportunity to cum.

Quite simple, never let anyone choke you ever, if they try get rid of them ASAP as they are clearly a deviant. If women have no respect for themselves then they will be taken advantage of. The first step to tackling this is to get women to stand up for themselves and have self respect.

I had a pole dancer straddle my shoulders, wrap her legs around my neck and squeeze. I don’t know if that’s the same thing but I didn’t know what was happening

According to another article yesterday in the same paper, **47% men and 52% women have experienced choking during sex**. Without doubt, there are gendered dimensions to this phenomenon, but it’s concerning that the Guardian and other sources are – by omission – presenting this as a sharply gendered issue.
It’s a pity that I have to point this out, and I’m expecting the downvotes, but I think it’s important to normalise discussing male and female suffering/victimhood/consent/harm in the same conversation when appropriate. We owe that to young people who need to be helped to build a clear picture of this and other issues.
