      > In return for these concessions, the United States, according to Axios, pledges to offer Kyiv security guarantees in the event of renewed Russian aggression. The form such guarantees might take remains unclear.

Ah yes, undefined security guarantees for the undefined future. With an Ukraine unable to join NATO, build up an army and gather highly effective weapons.

What could possibly go wrong in two or three years from now on?

From a European perspective, this is not a plan that is in our interest in my view. The only thing this would do is to embolden Russia, cement American withdrawal from Europe, and set up Ukraine for another invasion.

We have to prepare for war against Russia, and we have to prepare to back Ukraine alone. The Americans will pivot to Asia, and the country is soon so divided that it is too unpredictable to be seen as an ally.

It is unfortunate that we find ourselves in this situation, some of it is our own fault, some of it has been foisted upon us by a dictator in the east.

Nevertheless, if anyone think that we can “send a strongly worded letter” and be done with this, you’ll have a very rude awakening coming.

Yeah right, like saying America give up land for Mexico or United Kingdom

What were the security guarantees worth that were made previously by the US?

    5. bihtydolisu on

“We definitely, super duper mean it this time.” Of course, that reference would be lost to most of the United States, that doesn’t generally know anything about history aaand comes from an administration that just as soon throws everyone under the bus.

Surrender in exchange for protection guaranteed by Trumps word of honour? That’s Trumps big plan? What a cunt.

Trump could teach Neville Chamberlain a thing or two about the art of the deal.

    7. GDPR_Guru8691 on

Sounds like surrender, sounds grossly unfair and lacking justice.

    8. CapableCollar on

The continued sticking point is security guarantees.  Ukraine is unlikely to regain much territory without outside help.  With hard security guarantees and troops on the ground from third party nations a military drawdown becomes possible and even economically beneficial.  Without hard security guarantees none of it matters though.

Ukraine can’t make a deal with US as long as the pedo is in charge…

Please sign these updated guarantees, revision 2, while we work on the next release due shortly.

When are Trump and this US admin going to stop making the same mistake. You CANNOT have peace in Ukraine without Ukraine and Europe being at the negotiating table. Neither Europe or Ukraine will accept a deal that leaves Russia stronger and them weaker. Period. Every day that passes the US influence on the outcome of this war gets weaker and weaker.

    12. Legal_Mastodon_5683 on

And I propose that Trump stops fellating other presidents but well, that isn’t happening either!

    13. CronusCronusCronus on

Obviously fuck Putin and all that jazz.

However, what is the route out of the war? No one is willing to step in and put their finger on the scale and defeat Russia. Russia isn’t going to pack up and go home.

It’s cheap and easy for non Ukrainians to just say ‘Never surrender, fight till the end’ when it’s not them who die.

    14. 1). Both Putin and Trump are fundamentally incapable of honoring ANY agreement. So stop negotiating with them. Full stop.

2). These repugnant terms are not much different than the terms Merkel and Hollande tried to strong arm Ukraine into in 2014.

This is just bullshit, utter insanity in written form. Whoever wrote this should take a few shots of Vodka, maybe they’ll get their senses right.

    16. wordswillneverhurtme on

so basically disarm and delay the war for another 10 years? The russian economy is failing with every day idk why Ukraine would give in now of all times.

    17. Tehsillz on

The US: Give up your land to invaders
Also the US: We are losing our land to immigrants

    18. Questionsaboutsanity on

there have been security guarantees some years ago no? this is a farce…

    19. series-hybrid on

Sounds reasonable, but…Russia already “promised” to never invade Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine giving up its nuke missiles.

    20. Beyllionaire on

The US cannot be trusted. Even without Trump. Honestly I think we should drag this on until Putin dies of natural causes and see what happens.

    21. Coupe368 on

If Trump wants to put 100,000 American troops in Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro, then maybe that wouldn’t be a really stupid idea.

No way Ukraine is giving up the fortress belt without a fight, that’s the entire point of the fortress belt.

Ukraine has built its defenses in the fortress belt since 2014, Putin is trying to get Trump to give him the fortress belt without having to fight for it.

    22. Well, gosh, this seems like a no-brainer to me, I mean Ukraine was so well protected by the previous set of security guarantees /s

    23. SurroundTiny on

Didn’t they get ‘guarantees’ when they gave up their Nuclear weapons?

    24. this sounds like a pretty raw deal for ukraine giving up territory and downsizing while russia gets to keep what they grabbed with just some vague security promises in return

    25. Anything concocted by Trump and involving Putin is not to be believed. Both are confirmed liars to the end where no deception is off the table.

    26. AmbitiousEffort9275 on

Why any country would think trump intends on keeping his word is almost unfathomable.

    27. kmlynarski on

Trump, like his pal Putin, truly fails to understand that the only (and quickest) way to end this war is to withdraw Russian troops beyond Ukraine’s officially internationally recognized borders. All it takes is for the Russians to leave today, and the war is over. Ukraine should not accept any other options!

That witkoff is kind of a stubborn and annoying guys. Which an attempt is it? Third? Fourth?

    29. No_Conversation_9325 on

Daddy Putin really needs a break, it seems. So bad that Trump had to bend over. Again.

    30. Previous_Scene5117 on

and… Trump can get his little grabby hands on the UA natural resources on exploitation of which UA signed documents… US gets is for free and UA will get f…. all from it.
All the countries that supported UA particularly Poland will keep on paying in rebuilding UA… This is how you do it …

Another dead on arrival plan to make Putin happy.

Lets just hope donny doesnt withdraw intelligence sharing when it gets rejected by Ukraine.

This US government is really the dumbest and most spineless one imaginable.

      Here we go again..
The same “deal” that Putin tried before with no guarantees for Ukraine, giving up alot of land, and getting nothing in return.
