This is just trump setting the stage to stop helping Ukraine. Propose a plan they can’t say yes to, say they didn’t want peace when they say no, then cut off weapons.

And compared to Russia’s demand in 2022 and Ukraine’s counter-proposal, I think this amongst the least problematic parts of the plan.

What geniely baffles me is that the treaty gives Russia territories *currently held by Ukraine*. Putin has no real way to militarly win them but Kiev is suppised to just give them up
I wonder if Donetsk and Luhansk becoming independent countries, rather than immediately parts of Russia would be a better deal for Ukraine and acceptable for Russia.
Granted it would ultimately be Belarus, but as much as there is Russian influence in belarus, Belarus isn’t ultimately Russia and i wonder if that could be a good deal to settle waiting for Putin’s demise.

Forfeit claims to the land Russia has taken, limits on Ukraine military, guarantees that didn’t stop the current war and won’t stop the next one etc. It amounts to unconditional surrender by Ukraine, to be gobbled up by Russia at a later date when they have rearmed.
The aggressor is rewarded and the victim is punished, it would be madness for anyone else to suggest, but the White House is overrun with Russia assets atm…

What about the EU’s response? Because some of these points definitely require us to express our opinion.

Yeah, but if I remember correctly, Russia keeps saying that they don’t like NATO expansion and that they find it problematic, which means, I suppose, that we and the Baltic states should prepare ourselves to return to live under russian boot or be forbidden from having an army as part of the “new security architecture in Europe”?
This stinks a bit like Yalta 2.0 to me, except this time it’s even more absurd because we didn’t even actively participate in the war and the Russians don’t have any soldiers on our soil.
This sounds like a bad stupid plan.
It is completely unfair for Ukraine to have to cede land not yet lost, to Russia, but at the same time for Russia to keep what they captured militarily. Then Ukraine should be able to hold what they defended militarily. If Russia would want to rule Donbas and Luhansk and for Ukraine to back off, then they should equally back off from Zhaporiziya and Kherson.
Yes, we can dismiss this as ridiculous again, but our (European) weakness simply allows dictation to happen.
1919: Germany should give Alsace and Lorraine to France and have an army of max 100k men
2025: Ukraine should give Crimea and Donbass to Russia and have an army of max 600k men.
