Civil service is a shitshow full of people who can’t be fired and who get promoted based on length of service and “grades” rather than skill or knowledge, so sure, why not let them work less than they do already.

Bring it on! We should all (public and private sector employees) work less and enjoy life more with friends and family. Life is short, and I wanna spend more time doing things I like than the things I have to do! I hope in 10 years time this is the reality for everyone.

Young people in Ireland never want to work and don’t prioritise their money. Too much spent on avocados and social lives. When I was starting out in the mid 80’s I had no free time but was able to buy a house young because I sacrificed and worked hard

I was at a conference in the US about 3 years ago and the tech companies were making a big song and dance about going to a 4 day week and seeking meetings with Congress to try and get this enshrined in law…………but they were clear that the 5 days work would be compressed into 4 days and that the extra work would be achieved by banning non work related time wasting like coffee breaks, chats in the corridor, etc.

Cross post to r/noshitsherlock and wait for the poll on 45 minute tea breaks.

4 day week? That would be 2 days work more than normal from public sector ….

How does this work? I work 32 hours a week and only get paid for 32 hours? I’d rather have the 40 hour week and get paid for 40 hours. Less work means less pay. I’ll probably get downvoted for even asking this

That would be 2 or 3 days more work than they’re currently doing

Yeah, the less time I can spend doing trading my fleeting time on this planet for shiny tokens the better.

And then we can all work 1 extra day over time to have enough money to buy a home and survive… oh wait

Personally, I think the Irish unions really need to be coming out strong on these issues. Standing idly by and letting the only net gain of the pandemic, that is hybrid and flexible work be clawed back would be nuts. I’d love to see them all come together and try make something like Mayday an actual occasion in Ireland like the European unions do. Mayday started as a movement for the eight hour day, and it would make perfect sense to graft demands for enshrining proper rights about flexibility and hybrid work into legislation here onto the day itself.

Gaining traction? Vast majority of workers would start it tomorrow.

The amount of lads who must have nearly came with the excitement of getting to post ‘that’s 3 days more than they now, wha’…did you hear that one’ only to be followed by disappointment that multiple people had posted it before them.
