Farmers are staging a go-slow protest on roads across the UK today (Monday), to show their anger at the family farm tax.
The farmers are driving tractors and machinery along key main routes to draw attention to the growing pressures on the agricultural sector, ahead of the Budget on Wednesday.
This footage shows the protest on the A160 in North Lincolnshire.
The protests take place ahead of the Budget, where Chancellor Rachel Reeves plans to introduce a 20 percent rate on agricultural land and businesses worth more than £1 million.
A spokesperson for Farmers To Action said: “We all hope that taking part in the Day of Unity will further bring the farming community together.”

Protesting by doing the thing they do all the time any way?

I’m waiting for all the people who found the disruption from the climate protestors unacceptable to apply the same standards here.
Not gonna hold my breath though.

I hope they’re not using red diesel for non-agricultural purposes…

Amazing how climate protestors were thrown in prison for less disruption. Greedy farmers who still pay less tax than ordinary people continue to demand more

Just turn their farms to solar, seem to be the only thing in a farm worth having atm. best way to protest by not producing food.

“The farmers are driving tractors and machinery along key main routes to draw attention to the growing pressures on the agricultural sector”, in other news – farmers overwhelmingly voted for “Brexit”. In yet another news: “Before the split, those (EU subsidies) helped British farmers to the tune of nearly £3 billion a year, which for some, made up 90% of their annual income”. Now they’re bothering everyone else because the expected results of their own stupidity.

Be a real shame if the police checked the fuel they were using

Unfortunately nobody noticed as they were going slow anyway due to all the roadworks.

I actually do feel sorry for Rachael, she must be pulling her fucking hair out about now. No matter what she does, it’ll be wrong.

Can we not arrange for the climate protesters to be in the same place at the same time and we can watch them work out which is the immoveable object and which the irresistible force?

The cops should pull random tractors over and dip the tank.

This isn’t just about IHT although it will be quite damaging. They have ended the old style cap subsidies much quicker than they promised. Frozen SFI and capital grants which means many farms will have zero support come 2026.
The ministers have even stopped interacting with farmers, for example at the last food and environment forum they refused to send even a junior minister to answer questions on the future.
Gaslighting and turning the public on food producers has been their main aim so far.
We are living in extremely insecure times for food production and the short term gain of finance could be disasterous in the long term.
Even Centax who initially formed the new IHT proposals have backtracked and tried to get treasury to change

I have lots of sympathy for Farmers. I can understand taxing their cash as it passes down, but you can’t demand tax for a field, cow or piece of farming equipment – those are the tools that feed the country. I wish I hadn’t voted Labour, they’re as useless as the Tories were

Can these farmers fuck off already, they protested to get their already over generous inheritance tax overturned. Now they are using their ample free time to make life harder for the rest of us before any budget changes have even been announced.

Farm are by a large margin overwhelmingly owned by corporations, namely financial corporations. Next come the rich, may rich people from overseas who ow farms as a lifestyle and investment (read agricultural tax incentives and subsidies).. The practical reality – the actual fact – is that the much fabled ‘family farmer’ oft lauded by the right wing press, is in fact virtually that – a fable. ‘Family farmers’ constitute a tiny minority of farm ownership in the U.K..
I’ll also add that, granted, family farmers can be ‘cash poor’. However, they are very ‘asset rich’. Even small farms are worth a small fortune… Large to very large farms are worth a huge fortune.

No two Farmers and their struggles are alike. One should avoid generalisations & stereotypes. Like any family, there will be some set in their old traditional ways and some trying to modernize, compromise & be adaptive for times ahead. Really depends on an individuals Mindset. Those that grew comfortable in their set ways are most likely struggling. Time waits for no Man or women
Don”t get suckered into believing every farmer is at ends meet or that every farm is owned by an individual. Some farms are still long held by wealthy aristrocratic families, some by down to earth traditionalists and some have been bought by foreign Companies that mass produce food, like Branston Limited.
Not every farmer is as innovative as James Dyson or Anders Povlsen. If anything Clarkson’s farm is proof enough anyone can get into farming regardless of their background.
examples are
Arla Foods Limited: A significant player in the dairy sector.
Noble Foods Group Limited: Involved in a variety of agricultural areas.
Moy Park LIMITED: One of the largest chicken farmers in the UK.
Huntapac Produce Limited: A major producer of vegetables.
Chapel Down – one of many wine producers in the UK
I will not be surprised if few farmers leave UK and settle in Europe to continue their operations. Materialistic things such as land can be lost & crippled financially, but not One’s Mind. Plenty of English immigrants have found success outside the UK simply from keeping a Positive attitude.
