      What is special about Russia? Why would it be in the G7?

      What is this obsession to include Russia in G8? It’s not like any of the G7, G20 or whatever can take big unilateral decisions or something. And even if you’re expanding then S.Korea and Australia seem to be in better position to be added with few other economies like Mexico, Brazil, India being invited just as observers since they don’t qualify. Is Russia doing anything for long term issues like climate change, innovation, tech and supply chain problems ? I don’t think so, why do they need to be included in this ?

      One day Russia will be welcomed back but not until Putin first disappears and his successors make an effort to not act like freaking warmongering dictators.

      G7 is meant for the biggest economies that are “organized around shared values of pluralism, liberal democracy, and representative government.” Does that sound like Russia? Lol. Russia had their chance. They were welcomed with open arms after the fall of the USSR, but they elected a psycho that was obsessed with destroying the other countries in the G8. They made their bed.

      Controversial take: The US has not actually been hugely important in this war since they cut aid down to basically zero, reducing both their leverage and, therefore, frankly, their relevence- they have no mandate or legitimacy to negotiate with Russia about Ukraine on our behalf

      Russia in its current form should not exist. Once it fall apart into number of non nuclear non UN veto holding states, some of them may be considered to be included into various international organizations.

      I hate everything else about him, but his foreign policy is tolerable. But his stunt in Brazil makes me believe that even that might change during the coming years.
