Incontra la nostra corrispondente e fotografa, Olena Maksymenko, una giornalista che ha sopportato la detenzione russa e ha seguito la guerra in Ucraina dal 2014
During the Revolution of Dignity, she was at the center of the events on Kyiv’s Maidan. On 18 February 2014, during the tragic events on the Maidan, Olena was injured by a grenade that exploded near her feet.
At the start of the Russian occupation of Crimea, she was held captive by Russian militants. On 9 March 2014, as a journalist, she traveled to Crimea with, she was detained at a Russian checkpoint, robbed, beaten, and kept in captivity for several days.
Olena authored several poetry collections and she is a veteran and reservist of the volunteer battalion “Hospitaliers”.
With Frontliner, she traveled to numerous hotspots and reported on the critical developments unfolding on the ground.
Huge respect to Olena! When I came to her in 2020 and said, “Let’s create Frontliner and go to the front,” she simply asked, “When are we going?” Brave. Cheerful. Smart. And she makes amazing “shaman coffee” 🙂
