    1. >On June 19, 2015, during a meeting in St. Petersburg, Tsipras suggested to Russian President Vladimir Putin that he make a symbolic investment of €200-300 million in Greek government bonds.

      >“His answer was honest and blunt,” Tsipras said. “Putin said he would rather give the money to an orphanage because, he said, giving it to Greece would be like throwing it in the trash.” He suggested Greece reach an agreement with the Europeans, particularly German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Well, speaking the truth will make you unpopular with career bullshitters.

    4. Remember when he worked at Valve for a hot minute?

That Gabe Newell charm lol….I think Varoufakis has been right in some instances (especially his takes on economics and Crypto) but some of his broader opinions on other issues leave much to be desired and are downright naive.

Varoufakis a few days ago praised Trump as some kind of dove although a fascist. That with him in power, the world is more peaceful because he isn’t a warmonger like his predecessors…

Tsipras from the other side in his book blames his ministers for every failure of his administration because he wants to create a new political party and make a political rebranding to be appealing to the voters of the political centre.

Edit: Because some of you guys ask. Varoufakis has supporters from the <<anti-imperialist>> left. In a few words, they love to hate the West and they are willing to become apologists for every tyrant like Milosevic, Assad, Putin etc if he is against western interests. So it’s normal to have some positive feelings for Trump who is destroying America from within, hates globalism and doesn’t want to support the so-called liberal international order. Iran, Venezuela or whatever, he is still so much better for the tankies than every other former US President.

Varoufakis has also a lot of greek fanboys here on Reddit so I don’t care if I will be downvoted.

Politicians like Tsipris hate incorruptible experts with spines.

    7. Tsipras fails to acknowledge that Varoufakis was his personal choice for the position of minister of finance.

Tsipras and Varoufakis unfortunately charmed 2/3 Greeks into believing a magical solution to Greece’s debt problem: just say no to your lenders and they will cave. Well they didn’t and Greece ended in an even worse situation.

r/greece was such a “fun” place 2012-2015 when leftists were preaching Tsipras and Varoufakis super ideas daily, and anyone pointing to the absolute stupidity of these ideas was getting downvoted to oblivion.

Tsipras is a traitor, he made a referendum and then ignored people’s vote and did the opposite. Varoufakis did the right thing to quit after that.
