    1. Well it’s a good thing there’s no malicious political forces that could potentially gain political majorities brewing in the EU that could abuse this precedent.

When elected officials agree on policies you dislike, it’s still a democracy. “Democracy” doesn’t mean controversial policies are impossible – but it does mean that if you’re unhappy with the policies of your representative, you can let them know during the next election.

(Note – by Democracy, I obviously mean representative republic, the modern functioning form of democracy)

    3. It’s extremely authoritarian. And EU citizens uproared against a previous attempt just a couple of weeks ago. But they’re immediately back to trying. In fact, conservative actors have tried to introduce something like this again and again, on national as well as EU levels. Basically since the internet is a thing.

Conservatives unfortunately flirt with fascism all the time. I believe some of them to be not even intentionally malicious, but that doesn’t make the actual idea any less of a nightmare.

    4. Democracy is sort of on the way out mainly because citizens do not really care, for example, recent bending of knee to corporations whims, rogue countries demands or will to defend their country, there is no reaction besides some angry posts or some consumer goods boycott,

Democracy is bottom up, and if the here is no bottom then it becomes top down authoritarian.

They democratically elected people into power, and those people democratically decided among themselves to not allow the people who voted them info office to actually see which is for and against chat control.

And if chat control is passed, how long do you think it will be before it is used by the people in power to manipulate the voters into keeping them in power? It always seems to go that way, eventually.

The ruso-bots are having a field day with this one man, fuck sake

    7. it’s completely authoritarian, but the liberals in power are becoming desperate, and when they are desperate, they turn into tyrants.

Well, that’s my vote for MEPs changed …

We really need to pay more attention to debates in Brussels / Strasbourg. I find these topics get little or no media attention here and then seem to appear out of nowhere and suddenly everyone’s shocked.

For the last ten years, I have had such an unfortunate feeling that the European Union is a democracy only when it suits it. Liewise, I have a growing feeling that it has absolutely resigned from “serving citizens”, but is more inclined to serve developers, etc.

Hiding behind “decency” is already known to many countries and it does not turn out well.
I’m not a Eurosceptic, it’s just sad that I personally run out of arguments in discussions with them, which is probably not a good sign either… If it really “happens” behind closed doors. In my opinion, this does not show a real need, but a need for unnecessary control

The Council wants to adopt a PARTIAL mandate for negotiations with EU Parliament.
Meaning Council Members haven’t agreed completely on the proposal and want to introduce the parts they did on to Parliament.
My guess the voluntary scanning with crappy AI, mandatory age verification.
Remember: it took the commission and council 3 years to barely agree on a proposal and we still have Parliament and the courts.

So like, EU is going to sell our chat data to the highest bidder between America, Russia or China? Or the Saudis? Anyway, I’m gonna grab a few pigeons tomorrow from the square and start training them.

Meta is an American military controlled propaganda tool every nation state and free thinking human should be banning it’s use

our apathy towards eu elections and general shenanigans in brussels and strasbourg lead to them, rightfully it seems, thinking they can fly all kinds of neoliberal gaffes under our radar.

ask 100 eu citizens who their representative is and you’ll get 90 shrugs.

    16. It will still have to go through the parlement mate. Nothing is done yet.

Please have a read through the detailed analysis by Dr Patrick Breyer [here](https://www.patrick-breyer.de/en/posts/chat-control/#councilpositions).

And if you would like to write to your MEPs, the [fightchatcontrol.eu](https://fightchatcontrol.eu/#contact-tool) site has an easy template and contact lists for your country. I would, however, advise you to use it as a starting point and not copy it directly, as by this point our MEPs will have received thousands such letters. Write respectfully and polite, but do make sure that you stress you are concerned with the current development around the Chat Control legislature.

The EU’s two greatest enemies are Russia and its own MEPs

Dam looks like China was ahead of its time once again….

Jokes aside. This is such a funny development. I dont even think CHina has cross those lines xD. I guess the true nature of “democracy” is starting to show itself and that it will converge to an authorization state or some sort of dictatorship/ fascism adjacent

Can all these fossils just finally fuck off already? It’s exhausting watching all these old fucks make decisions that affect the entire world when they probably couldn’t even change their brightness without having their wrinky old fuck hands held.

    21. How do you pass something without a vote. Closed doors or not doesn’t mean representation wasn’t there..

    22. Few_Time_7441 on

Is that even possible? How would they pass it behind closed doors exactly? That screenshot seems to show a random twitter post…

    23. Not even a bit, its full fledged. Miss the days when EU was the goal regarding internet privacy.. but noo, and the reasoning is so see trough.. everyone trying to establish this kind of stuff always go “but think of the children”.. godammit, same shit everyday.

    24. Don’t you guys have a constitutional right of private mail or something?

Its funny they do this after Ursula cancelled all her whatsapp messages

Sometimes I just feel like these kind of posts are made just to create a flame war and spread the idea the EU is usless and autocratic.
Almost like the troll farms activities.
      Dont you think?
