It was hosted with an unpublished but easily identifiable URL presumably ahead of public Comms going out.

Not sure what else a cyber security “expert” could add to this or why the money is needed to be spent on one.

Clearly an inside job. Malcolm Tucker has finally had enough of Nicola Murray.

This is laughably bad, from the article.

“Even though the document was not listed on the OBR website, journalists – including those at the BBC – were able to access by guessing its URL, which was very similar to one used in a previous official document.”

And what was the difference in the URL?

“The BBC was able to access the PDF version of the OBR’s key report at 11:45 on Wednesday by replacing the word ‘March’ with ‘November’ in the web address of a previous edition.”

“You’ve uploaded it early with an easily guessable name,” says the cyber expert

If this is their level of IT competence then they probably have many other security issues.

Some of the presenters on Sky News were getting raging hard ons over it leaking 30 minutes early. Surely I can’t be the only one who thinks it’s not a big deal? Embarrasing? Sure. But ultimately didn’t change anything.

This used to be commonplace back on the internet back in 1994. But back then if you pressed “back” on your browser after making a transaction you’d be charged a second time (and a 3rd and a 4th and so on)

I’m baffled that it’s still an issue 30 years later.

    8. “calls in cyber expert”

This is absurd. They should already have a team, in house, and should just fire whoever was responsible for the process that lead to the mistake.

Smells like a classic ‘leak to embarrass’, ‘cos the metaphorical knives have been out for Reeves a while now.
