“The Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) heard yesterday that more than €4 million of public money has been spent over 22 years on the project, which McGrath said “may or may never happen”.

The figure includes around a million euro in legal costs which arose because of two separate arbitration processes incurred by the Office of Public Works (OPW) in relation to the project.

The estimated cost of the project has risen from €14.3 million in 2003 to more than €70 million in 2024, which does not include the value of the site.”

This project has a site, just surprised it isn’t Web mk1 design

And nothing will be done to hold anyone to account. Shocker.

What would a science centre even provide?

Suprise, suprise. We are the best in the world at waisting money.

4 million spent and nothing done. I wonder how much the board members are taking home in salaries and expenses.

Why do we even need this science centre in the first place? AI is more than enough and can replace all these centres fast.

Hey its only taxpayers money. Plenty more where that came from.

There really needs to be some serious analysis of the OPW. Too many of these projects are inexplicably expensive and running away like that. Ultimately that’s money that could have been spent on something useful – it just takes money from something else.

  9. Wasn’t €110m spent on the “Stadium Ireland” in Abbotstown without any stadium ever built?
