Here you can see why Switzerland is the country of the Alps.

Really shows why Russia (in it’s current form) is geographically constructed by the Ural mountains. If you read about the history of Russia (the tussle between Kiev and Moscow, the Mongolian horde coming from the east, the importance of the flatlands to the west into Europe) you see why current Russian logic is dominated by the lands west of the Urals and into Ukraine, Poland and the next defensive lines of the Alpes and Balkan area. You also see why Russians to the East of the Urals are far more tribal and grouped with an overarching “Russian” nationality but in many cases completely alienated by the Russians to the West of the Urals.

    3. Good first attempt but still a long way to go. Also, try r/mapporn, you might get some hints there.

    4. This is way out I’m afraid, the UK is nowhere near the size of France or Germany, here it looks like it’s comparable to both.

This map is inaccurate by quite some order of magnitude.

      France – 551,000km sq

      Germany – 357,000km sq

      UK – 243,000km sq

I’m always surprised how mountainous/hilly Spain really is. I shouldn’t be, because of my thousands of hours in EU4 and hundreds of wars against Spain, but here we are.

And here you see why it was (and is) possible to roll over Poland to get from Germany to Russia (and vice versa) in a blitzkrieg. All flat land from Berlin to Moscow.

    7. If you erase all the mountainous regions from the globe The Netherlands remains.

I already know it, but seeing how mountainous spain is in this map, it reinforces the feeling.
