Chat Control 2.0 “Compromise” Sees Broad Support

Behind closed doors, the revised Danish Chat Control compromise sees broad support. Due to Article 4 and 6 in the proposal, scanning of all messages, including end-to-end-encrypted content, is reintroduced while anonymous communication is outlawed and age verification becomes universal. The legislation now moves to the COREPER for approval before being formally adopted as the Council position

    Mandatory Scanning Excluded
Following significant public opposition, the Danish Presidency has revised its Chat Control compromise text to include recital 17a, which explicitly states that nothing in the regulation imposes detection obligations on providers, thus excluding mandatory scanning. The updated proposal (15318/25) is heading to COREPER and is expected to be formally adopted by the Council on November 18th or 19th, after which trilogue negotiations with the European Parliament will commence.

    Council Endorses Chat Control
All but four countries (Czech Republic, Italy, Netherlands, and Poland) endorsed the revised Danish Chat Control proposal. While the obligation for scanning has been removed, the agreed text nonetheless incentivises service providers to indiscriminately scan private communications.

Fuck Nicu Stefanuta, the betrayer. This guy was briefly interviewed by ProTV and he just meatrided the EU on identity verification and “everything is for the kids”. There’s no bigger proof that he switched parties to be in favor of Chat Control.

Why are they so fucking persistent about this, and why did Denmark suggest it in the first place? So much for freedom.

You know they’ve succeeded in making the media complicit when even the French aren’t protesting. There were bigger headlines about vegan burgers than Chat Control here.

  8. gg. i used to take pride in being european. it’s dwindling for sure.

Even if this eventually passes in this form, and that’s a big if, this will very likely be challenged at the ECJ with realistic chances of it being struck down there.

From Patrick Beyer’s Analysis: “Today’s vote was far from unanimous, with the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Poland voting against, and **Italy abstaining”**.

**Italy is in favor of Chat Control and ID age verification**. Meloni’s authoritarian government has already passed a decree-law requiring ID age verification for porn sites, and in future it will expand to all chats, emails, and social media accounts in accordance with the Chat Control it supports. **The Meloni government** [abstained on Chat Control ](https://www.reddit.com/r/EUnews/comments/1p7h2ly/chat_control_there_is_a_qualified_majority_for/)**à la Pontius Pilate, a vote that led to its approval** (there were important elections in Italy and there will be referendums, so the government does not want to lose votes by voting explicitly yes).

Next year we will have mandatory ID verification for any website which could display adult material ie all social networks, AI etc. Once they have ID they can use this law to put a user on control.

Also what does it mean for 4 countries which did not endorse, will they be obliged under EU law to implement chat controls on citizens?

  12. dustofdeath on

Everyone who voted for it, betrayed citizens, going against core principles of the EU.

Especially the ones who suddenly changed their minds even though people voted against it.

This is pure corruption and a power grab.

wtf did we even fight for?

Thousands emailed and warned against this… but no.

It didn’t even appear in national news today. Europe is pathetic.

was anyone able find the official voting results, please?

I have been trying to find them for several days now and it seems they have not been released yet.
Therefore I am surprised there have been so many post like this claiming which countries endorsed the regulation and which didnt.

As far as I know there is no official information on this (yet?) and literally all sources point to a single article.
