I think you’re in for a lot of manual labor.
I would look into adding some strategic berms to your landscape, instead of trying to completely flatten everything. Many plants love berms, and they add a lot of interest to smaller yards.
Draw up a plan for your landscape, borrow or buy a wheelbarrow, some shovels, a pickax, and a couple (rock) rakes. Ask friends to come help, and ply them with lots of food and drinks.
