All for it. Gardai have to put up with some seriously dangerous people.

The TASER was introduced in the US for use when a firearm would otherwise be used. Ie. Man with knife

It is now used by fat, incapable cops as a fun subduing device. Even televised UK cop shows often show them being used against drunk people SLIGHTLY resisting arrest (eg. walking away) as incapable PC Plod shrieks “taser taser!!!!” to do what all the proper strength training he skipped out on should have.

It causes you to size up and fall to the ground, incapable of protecting your head. This is the WORST possible way to incapacitate someone. Hitting your head on the ground is the main killer in fights – not punches.

There’s plenty of belligerent yet physically useless guards who’d love these.

The great irony is these are useless against anyone but stationary targets or those already subdued. Clothing and violent movement prevents the probes from embedding to achieve a closed circuit.

As bad as it looks optically, it’s far more humane to recruit, train, enforce discipline  (and pay well) for 6 ft + male gardai who actually keep in shape.

I’d have no problem issuing these to guards that pass annual fitness and grappling exams. Because then they’ll be used as last resort. But a large portion of guards (and police in many countries) are visibly, obviously incapable of the physical aspects of the job and will overuse these.
