  1. As long as the tax protocols make it a better return for developers to throw up these hotels than permanent accommodation, we will continue to have a housing crisis

Interesting that the describe the First Stop garage site as vacant. Although it appears to be it is being used by the garage across the street as a lot for cars. The shop unit on the other side has had fitters in over the last few weeks, so something seems to be going in there too.

Good to see something going in to such a long term derelict site. No mention of it paying backdated levies in the article, I wonder if the council will get to take the landowners to task over it.

The wind jammer pub there is an experience.
The lampost outside is still leaning from where my family car was stolen and driven into it in 1986

I was looking at that building last week wondering if something would ever be done with the structure. Good to see something finally happening.

    >The Guinness sign on 114 Townsend Street remains the only indication of its previous life as the Countess Markievicz pub

I have a weird fascination with disused pubs and old Dublin, I walked past this place many times and wondered what the pub was called. Tried Googling it a few times but came up empty handed.

Even now I know it was called Countess Markievicz, I still can’t find any pictures of it as it once was. Google Maps oldest picture is from 2009.

What is this insane pursuit of hotels when what we need is apartments?

You’d really wonder how buildings in Irish cities are ever allowed to get that derelict – our city councils really are incompetent or captured by property interests. They don’t give a f**k.

So much of the cities could be real communities and so vibrant, but they’re not.

We don’t seem to even understand how to do urbanism at any scale.

I miss the seashell. Fed many trinity students over the years

I’d rather keep the eyesore. More character than another ugly glass box for tourists.
