What’s wrong with adoption
Surrogacy is banned in most of European countries (Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden…). It is only allowed but mostly discouraged in a few (Denmark, The Netherlands…) and in these countries it should be “altruistic”. In Ukraine (or US out of Europe), it is allowed as a business.
Question: Does anybody think that a woman is going to have one of the hardest experiences in life (pregnancy and giving birth), plus afterwards giving away the “thing” that one can have most possible attachment in life, just “for nothing” to some strangers? Usually this would be done by low class women in need, that do it for a few thousands.
I honestly can only see the “altruism” in the case that it is done by a close relative, like a sister. But those cases seem to be “1 in a million”…
I think this article of VRT could be a bit more “complete” if they would give more context about the legal options in other countries, and not just as it seems to be a picture of surrogacy as something but “a great nice adventure”.
Besides everything, it is really incredible that Belgium still lacks any legal system, which gives even more uncertainty to everybody involved.
One of those things that’s really difficult, morally, imo.
On the one hand we want to protect vulnerable women from being pressured into this for financial reasons but on the other hand if a woman wants to use her body this way to earn money or to help someone they care about, who are we to stop them?
I feel like it’s kinda similar to prostitution in a way. We want to protect vulnerable women but if they chose to do sex work, who are we to prevent them?
I do get it. I have two children and it was an easy enough ride to get them. I can definitely sympathize with people who really want this and then your own body just refuses. But this video feels like they’re open to getting phone calls from people who want to help ‘in ‘t zwart’. I mean they do give the impression that money is to be made. It feels a little dodgy to me. Not the baby wish, but the lengths they will go to.
