  1. >Belgium believes that Russia will not lose the war in Ukraine, and that claims about its defeat are “a fairy tale and a complete illusion.” Therefore, frozen assets will have to be returned to Russia after the war. Russia has openly threatened Belgium with “eternal retaliation” if it confiscates the assets, said Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever in an interview with La Libre.

    >De Wever spoke about “incredible pressure” surrounding the issue of seizing Russia’s frozen assets. At the same time, the Belgian Prime Minister insists on calling attempts to transfer Russia’s funds to Ukraine a theft.

    >”Stealing frozen assets of another country, its sovereign wealth funds, has never been done before. This is the money of the Central Bank of Russia. Even during World War II, Germany’s money wasn’t confiscated, it was frozen,” he said.

    >De Wever added that after a war ends, the country that lost must give up all or part of its assets. However, the Belgian Prime Minister appears to believe that Russia is winning the war. Moreover, he claims that a Russian defeat would be undesirable.

    >”*But who really believes that Russia will lose in Ukraine? Russia will not lose. This is a fairy tale, a complete illusion*. ***It is even undesirable for them to lose, so that instability doesn’t grip a country that possesses nuclear weapons***,” he said.

    >According to De Wever, the Kremlin has directly threatened Brussels, promising “eternal retaliation” if Belgium allows the European Union to confiscate Russian assets.

    >”Who believes that Putin would calmly accept the confiscation of Russian assets? Moscow made it clear that if confiscation happens, Belgium and I personally will feel the consequences forever. That seems like a rather long time,” he said.

He should ask his masters to send him proof of this alleged threat #1,231,908.

They also made it clear that if Germany would have send the Leopards there would have been no Berlin anymore.

Politico recently published an article explaining why Belgium opposes the confiscation of Russia’s assets. According to the outlet, Belgium’s resistance may have more practical reasons than fear of retaliation from Russia. [**EU officials suspect Belgium is pocketing the income**](https://newsukraine.rbc.ua/news/eu-claims-belgium-is-keeping-income-from-1764322667.html) **generated by Russia’s assets instead of transferring it to Ukraine.**

A western paid stooge? Putin is splurging – unlike or an and others this guy probably demanded a lot of bribes

Sounds just so so so stupid and obvious

1941 – Belgian pm says hitler’s assets should not be used against him because he might hurt Belgium

Doesn’t that sound like a traitor saying the obviously hitler approved message?

  4. Acrobatic_Morning17 on

Since 2022 the strategy has been that russia will collapse, Putin will die, short guy tosses a magic ring into a volcano and end credits will start to roll. It’s amazing that nobody else thought of a contingency where that does not happen.

  5. ireliawantelo on

It’s ok, Putin has a life-threatening disease (for the 251452th time) according to the media so the situation will resolve itself soon.

It seems to me that De Wever received an additional boost of confidence from the peace plan endorsed by Trump, which quite clearly stipulates that half of the money from the frozen assets essentially goes to the U.S. (or to Trump’s friends).

Furthermore, it has become apparent that corruption in Ukraine permeates virtually the entire top tier of the state apparatus. Zelenskyy is now pretending he didn’t know that for three years, a whole quasi-structure created by his friends and associates operated right under his nose, siphoning state funds into the bank accounts of Zelenskyy’s inner circle.

Ukraine’s 2026 budget is 60% dependent on European financial aid.

That’s why DeWever has become bolder: he doesn’t want to pick a fight with Trump, he doesn’t want to be held accountable to Russia, and he is confident that this money will be embezzled.

  7. Guess he shouldn’t have allowed them to buy him if he didn’t want to stay bought.

People might be offended but he is just being realistic while everyone is is living in a fairy tale universe with sunshine and roses where the good guy always wins and a bunch of meetings and nice words solve the issue.

The reality is Ukraine is losing ground slowly but consistently and they will run out of troops before Russia does at this rate. Especially with the thousands of Ukrainian men deserting weekly.

This Bart guy are working with reproducing the Ruzzian narrative. Using Ruzzian assets to help Ukraine defend itself from the Ruzzian aggressions not theft, it is common sense. Every day is another chance for Ruzzia to withdraw from territory that is not theirs. They are the ones stealing assets in the form of land.

I think this Bart guy is a coward. He cave for the threats from Ruzzia about retaliation. We have seen these threats before and what happens when we stand firm – it is mostly just rethoric. He compares Nazi Germany s frozen assets… Well the allies should have been able to use them to end the German aggression sooner. That is a bad argument from the PM.

Ruzzia will lose this. They are using donkeys for transportation and can not equip their orcs. They are desperate. It is time we stop them once and for all.

Jesus, Belgium, have some balls man. You’re embarrassing yourself

  11. pardiripats22 on

Well of course it won’t lose if you give it its frozen assets back…

  12. Large_Awareness_9416 on

This message indicates a clear change in European rhetoric. Saying something like that a year ago would’ve branded you as a Russian puppet or/and propagandist. But now? It becomes more and more widespread, as reality starts spilling through the cracks.

  13. Nebuladiver on

What a self centred pussy. Of course Russia will not lose if no one does anything. Maybe that’s what he would have wanted for Belgium in WWII?

  14. Alppptraum on

    It’s called self-fulfilling prophecy.

Somehow they pretend we are talking about a force of nature that we cannot influence, whereas the opposite is the case.

Money goes into the back pocket, i am now your mouth pieces, verbally or orally.

  16. Suzumebachi14 on

Yeah, Assad wasn’t supposed to lose too, we know how that ended up. But it’s true that allies like Belgium make things more complicated for their own “allies”.

  17. Reflexive Control in action. Repeating like parrots or even worse, getting paid to spread the meme of inivetable russian victory.

  18. Cordyceps83 on

So it’s totally ok to wreck, destroy and kill civilians in Ukraine, but taking ruzzian assets is suddenly a theft?
    Weak muppents.

  19. iam-leon on

The fact Russia is threatening Belgium and not the European Union itself with this tells you everything.

    A bully. A weak bully.

  20. DeKosterIsNietDom on

What the hell is wrong with this sub? Our PM doesn’t want to just take 140+ billion of Russian assets without legal basis and that somehow makes him a Russian puppet? Everybody who disagrees with taking these assets is also automatically a Russian troll apparently.

This could literally result in the end of the country if anything goes wrong and Belgium is left with the bill (which could potentially be 200+ billion after damages). European countries are refusing to share the risk as well as offer up their frozen Russian assets, yet somehow Belgium is just supposed to risk bankrupting the country.

  21. jay_alfred_prufrock on

Well, you just got banned from r/ukraine mister, hell, I got banned for saying the war might not end in favour of Ukraine, this is even worse.

  22. aleks0713 on

That is good that he is saying that. But he also need to tell all what will happened.

Ukrainians will be recruited to Russian army (as it happens now) and very soon a 2 million army will take Brussel.

What can stop them , except absolutely stupid ignorant and idiotic text of Nato generals all over Europe?

    Nothing…

If people do not know Belarussian army is now growing and training for occupation administrations in Baltics and Poland

But Putin would not attack NATO , of course, because NATO will collapse in 5 days.
EU armies just do not have ANY … ANY weapon to fight against Russian army … – no drones, EW, artillery, missiles, and main – systems to organize all stuff in ONE reconnaissance combat circuit .
And the funniest thing they even do not want to have all that stuff. EU generals are telling that they do not need it – some more tanks which cost like space station and live on battle field 5 min, some planes which need to work like Ukrainian ones from roads , and of course – battleships – which are expensive and can be destroyed in 2 days

Belgium surely need to keep all that money….

  23. dakjelle on

Maybe it’s time EU moved from Bruxelles which BTW is such a mess

So…where are all those Kick them out of European Union patriots today? usually when something like this happens in Slovakia and Hungary they are all over the place? Seems like russian bots doesn’t aim to disrupt EU via belgium and Slovakia and Hungary is enough for the task

  25. Realistic_Kick4960 on

Why is russia so fussy about this money? They have a booming economy, they drive golden ladas and have flushing toilets!
