Have you submitted an up to date tax card to your employer? You should be paying something like 20-22% tax. The 32% sounds like the max amount once you exceed your estimated earnings for the year.

The government takes almost everything you make, welcome to Winland.

Theres also other sources, feel free to use the web. Its there for you, you just need to read.

    4. Mandatory payments: Pension contribution, unemployment insurance payment. These together are 7,94 %.

You are taxed for 4 200e due to nourishment benefit, but your monetary salary is 4 000e. Your tax from your personal tax % is 820e. So your net salary is

      +3 984,75e
      -300,75
      -33,23
      -820,22
      = 2830,55

There’s nothing you can do about it. And please check your tax card, to me your tax % seems low. Should be around 22-23 % I think. If you don’t pay enough taxes during the year, you’ll get back taxes.

Edit: As mentioned by u/Impressive-Pin-1634 , also note your holiday bonus. Good rule of thumb to calculate your yearly income is by multiplying your monthly salary with 12,5. 13 to be sure. So when you fill in the tax card application, you should put 54 600 as your yearly income + other bonuses (for example 1 750 in your current pay slip).

Is this your first salary after coming to Finland? If it is, then this is a bit too much.

For the rest of the year including this, you should probably get ~34k. I think the tax bracket for that will be really low. You can use http://www.vero.fi to calculate tax(there is tax calculator).

However, I have to warn you that if you get the same salary for the entire year, you will get only this much.

If your yearly salary is ~51k, it is better to add couple of thousands to your salary ceiling (holiday bonus, normal bonuses etc.). So if your total ceiling is ~53k, you will probably get a tax bracket of 22-23%. You will also have to deduct an extra 7.94% to this. So total deduction will be 31-32%. So it will be something like 2850€.

Welcome to finland where everything is taxed. In fact that tax rate is actually suprisingly low as it’s only slightly over 20%+retirement payment but it could be even 30%

This is the secret behind why we are the happiest people on earth. We take from the rich and give it to the poor.
